WEB GEMS- Top 7th: Rod Carew robbed Lou Gehrig of a base hit.

Lou Gehrig went yard and had 3 RBI as the Athens Bobkittens man-handled the
hapless Cleveland Mayors - the final score was 18 to 4.

Gehrig enjoyed a fine evening at the plate.  He cleared the fences for a
two-run home run (his 35th of the season) in the 6th inning and tripled
resulting in a run in the 9th inning.  Athens bats were very productive in
the 2nd inning which saw them plate 6 runs on 5 hits and the 6th inning which
saw them plate 5 runs on 4 hits.  Athens had 18 hits overall, while Cleveland
had 13.

The win went to Carl Mays(9-12) who allowed no runs in 3 innings. Al
Spalding(10-8) was tagged with the loss.  He gave up 6 runs and 5 hits in 1
and 2/3 innings.
