Shortstop Barry Larkin had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at League Park where the
Cleveland Mayors beat the Bat Cracking Bombers 7 to 6.

Dwight Gooden(4-5) struggled but was good enough to win with the help of some
fine defensive plays.  He gave up 9 hits and 4 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.
Cleveland finished with 10 hits in the victory.

Gooden got relief help from Dennis Eckersley who gained credit for his 22nd
save.  Christy Mathewson(12-8) ended up with the loss.  He was not very
effective, surrendering 7 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings.

The Cleveland ballclub's record now stands at 41-75.  With the loss Bat
Cracking now has a record of 68-52.
