Top 6th: Tony Gwynn robbed Joe Dimaggio of an extra base hit. Jimmie Foxx cracked 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI at Municipal Stadium as the Lake Erie Mohawks beat the N. Ridgeville Bandits 17 to 10. Foxx was really in 'the zone'. He tripled in the 1st inning, smacked a three-run homer in the 2nd inning, delivered a one-base hit in the 4th inning, bombed a two-run dinger (his 18th of the season) in the 8th inning and laced a single which plated a run in the 9th inning. Lake Erie bats were very productive in the 1st inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 5 hits and the 2nd inning when they had 4 runs on 4 hits. Lake Erie dominated offensively as they scored in 6 different innings. Pete Alexander(13-6) was the winner allowing 8 runs in 5 innings. Warren Spahn(4-14) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 5 runs and 5 hits in 1 inning. 'The ball was jumping off my bat' Foxx said. 'I didn't do anything differently, it's the same way I always approach the game.' |
