Left fielder Willie Keeler had 2 base hits and Whitey Ford went 7 and two
third strong innings at Riverfront Stadium where the Sacramento Soches beat
the Lake Erie Mohawks in 12 innings 2 to 1.

The score was knotted at 1 after nine innings.  Sacramento won the game in the
12th inning.  Ryne Sandberg delivered a one-base hit.  Dale Murphy stepped up
next and he smacked a single.  Keeler then hit a single making Sacramento the
victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration.  The teams had been
locked in a scoreless duel until the 6th inning. 

Sparky Lyle(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 3 innings and allowing
no runs. The losing pitcher was Ernie White(0-1) in relief
