I met my husband on a snowy day in February 1997. Granted, we technically had known each other since October 1996; we did not meet in person until February. The first day I met Den is one I will never forget. The roads were icy and snow was coming down heavily. Still, I made the 15 mile trip to meet the man I had gotten to know through letters and phone calls.
That first day, as we sat in the mall talking, I felt like I had met a kindred soul. We talked about everything: our kids, our previous marriage and divorce, our beliefs and our shared faith in God. We talked about politics, women's rights...just about any serious issue that one could think of but should *never* speak of on a first date. Physically, I was almost mesmerized by his eyes. My sweetie has these beautiful crystal blue eyes...I embarassed myself by having difficulty *not* looking at them. LOL But, I was also drawn to his warmth and kindness, the way his eyes lit up when talking about his kids and his faith that, despite being a divorced father raising three kids, he had not become jaded to the concept of getting married again.

I wish I could say I felt the same back then...having hope for a marriage and life partner. I didn't though. After 10 years of marriage, I did not want to even entertain the idea of getting married again. Despite his firm beliefs in marriage, and my not wanting to get married again, I came back again. And again...

After eight months of dating, and almost a year of knowing each other, Den and I were married on October 11, 1997. I had the fairy tale wedding that most girls dream about...the gown, tuxes, music and my prince. My "prince" bought my gown for me, as a gift from his heart. It has now been almost eight years and we still have that same giddy butterfly-in-your-stomach kind of love. I never would have thought marriage could be so sweet. One of God's greatest gifts has been sending this man into my life. I love you, sweetheart!
