| Healing Teas |
| I was never much of a tea drinker until I began reading about the different medicinal uses found in various teas. While one can buy various "natural" teas in health food stores, teas can also be easily made if you have the right herbs. I will continue to add on as I experiment with more teas. *** Some store bought teas I recommend are Chai Green Tea. It is to die for! Spicy, spicy, spicy! I could drink six cups a day and since I no longer drink coffee, I *do* start out my day with a cup of Green Chai. Also, Yogi Tea makes a wonderful brew called "Woman's Moon Cycle". It tastes great! Chamomile: Used for insomnia, stomach cramping and sore throats. Use one teaspoon of chamomile flowers per cup of water. Bring to a boil and cool slightly. For best results, do not steep for more than five minutes. Linden Flower : For cough and colds, fever reduction and reduction of anxiety. One cup of boiling water to one teaspoon of linden flowers. Sttep for 10 minutes. May be taken three times a day. Peppermint: Uses include irritable bowel syndrome, flatulence and headahces. One cup of boiling water to one TABLESPOON of dried peppermint leaves. Steep for 10 minutes. May have up to three cups a day. Dandelion: Lowers blood pressure and cholesterol while stimulating digestion. One cup of boiling water over 1-2 teaspoons of dried, crushed LEAVES. Steep for 10 minutes. May be used twice a day. Raspberry Leaf: Used for diarrhea, bronchitis and to relieve menstrual cramps. Steep dried, crushed leaves in cold water for three hours and then bring to a boil for approximately 10 minutes. Strain. Use one teaspoon of dried mixture per cup. May use up to three cups a day. Fennel: Stimulates appetite, aids in digestion and reduces flatulence. I used this for my baby when he had colic and it worked well. 3/4 cup of boiling water over 1-2 teaspoons of crushed fennel seeds. Steep for 10 minutes. May have three cups a day. Infants should not be given more than 1/8th of the adult dose. To be on the safe side, ask your doctor before giving this or any medicinal tea to a child or infant. Hawthorn: Lowers blood pressure, promotes blood flow and thus, promotes a healthy heart. One teaspoon of hawthorn flowers to one cup of boiling water. Steep for 10 minutes. May have two cups a day. |
