The scene opens on a frenzied situation in a large room, filled with cubicles.
People are running in different directions all over the room.
The camera focuses on a man with a bomb strapped to his chest, crying, walking up and down aisles, looking at his former co-workers. In his right hand is what appears to be a trigger switch. On his chest, is a timer, that is set at 1 minute, but isn’t moving yet.
“WHERE IS JOHNSON!?!” the man screams. “I WANT TO TALK TO JOHNSON!”
Outside, a bevy of police cars are arriving, along with a black van belonging to the bomb squad. The camera closes in on two police officers.
“Call in the sparks.” One of them says.
The black vans doors open and the five bomb squad members step out.
The driver of the van steps out and crosses over to the other officers. He isn’t dressed like the rest of the team. He’s an older gentleman. This is Vic Warner.
VIC
What have we got here?
Back inside the building, the screaming man comes across another man cowering in the corner.
“WHERE IS JOHNSON?” He screams.
“Johnson… had the day… off.”
The man screams again and hits the trigger switch, starting the clock.
The scene cuts to the bomb team running up a flight of stairs, this time only with four of them.
The scene cuts quickly to a van, where one of the members is setting up shop with her laptop. We notice almost immediately that this is a girl, barely in her twenties. This is Renee Taggert. She puts on a headset.
RENEE
You guys in?
The scene cuts back to the team running up the stairs. The man in front is loading a dart gun, presumably used to knock out the guy with the bomb, rather than kill him. He’s a rather well built black man. This is Carter Winslow. Right behind him is a young team member, looking very much like a new recruit. He looks very nervous. This is Malcom Palmer. Carter turns to Malcom.
CARTER
Watch and learn.
Carter kicks the door in and immediately enters the panic stricken room. He looks over to the corner where the man with the bomb is standing. The clock on his chest says 30 seconds. Carter fires the dart, hitting the man in the neck, and almost instantly knocking him to the ground. The other two squad members (Not Carter or Malcom) quickly run over to the man. The man is Chad Cooper, and the woman is Harper Jordan. Both are in their 30’s. Chad puts on his headset, and Harper leans over the man’s body.
CHAD
Alright, Renee, we’ve got a simple wrap and strap. It’s some basic sticks,
attached to a clock. I think Harper’s got this on her own.
HARPER
I would hope so. This is so homemade.
Harper cuts two wires leading from the timer to the sticks, and the timer stops.
CHAD
It’s clear. We’re good to go.
RENEE (on headset)
You know you have to wait ten before I’ts clear, just in case.
CHAD
I’m tellin ya, this is so easy, a child could do it.
HARPER
What are you trying to say?
Carter and Malcom walk over to Chad and Harper.
CARTER
Is it clear?
CHAD
In three… two… one…. Alright. Clear. No activity for ten seconds. Are you happy
Renee?
RENEE (on headset)
Just following protocol.
Carter turns to Malcom.
CARTER
And that’s how that’s done.
MALCOM
Is it like this every time?
CARTER
Nine out of ten.
MALCOM
What’s the tenth like?
CHAD
Boom.

The scene reopens outside the building, with Carter, Chad, Malcom, and Harper exiting the building. A reporter can be heard as a voiceover.
“A tragedy was averted today by LA’s finest bomb squad. Captain Vic Warner said that he was proud of his team, and was pleased that no one was injured in today’s incident. No one knows why Robert Harris did what he did….”
Vic and Renee meet the rest of the team at the van.
VIC
Good job guys.
CHAD
Honest to God. There wasn’t anything tricky about that bomb. She had it.
HARPER
I could have cut the wrong wire.
RENEE
What was the clock at?
HARPER
18 seconds.
VIC
Cutting it close.
CARTER
Malcom here got his feet wet at least.
VIC
Oh really? Doing what?
MALCOM
14 stories in record time. That’s what.
The rest of the team laughs at Malcom, and they all get back in the van.
Back at the station, the team is busy working out. Carter is punching bags, Harper is running on a treadmill, Chad is lifting weights. The camera focuses on Malcom, who is doing sit-ups, and Renee who has her knees on his feet, keeping him steady.
RENEE
You like working here?
MALCOM
It’s intense.
RENEE
It gets better from here. Just wait until Harper gets one in at 2 seconds.
MALCOM
She’s cut it that close before?
HARPER
It was three, Renee. If you’re gonna tell a story, at least tell it straight.
RENEE
Alright. Three seconds.
MALCOM
Wow. That IS intense.
CHAD
You wear your green on your sleeve, kid.
Carter and Chad laugh. Vic enters the room.
VIC
The Mayor is on his way here.
CARTER
To congratulate us?
VIC
He just wants to shake a few hands, get a few votes. Same old drill.
HARPER
Photos?
VIC
Hmmm. He didn’t say.
The team gets up and starts to clean up.
The scene cuts to a limo. The Mayor is sitting in the backseat, with another guy next to him. Some kind of press secretary. In the front seat is his driver. The car pulls up in front of the station.
“Thanks Carl. This is fine.” The Mayor says.
Suddenly, the doors lock.
“Carl?” The Mayor asks.
The window in between the drivers seat and the backseat rolls up.
“CARL!” The Mayor screams, pulling out his cell-phone. Gas starts to fill the room, as the Mayor dials.
“Vic! I’m outside! Something’s happening…” The Mayor says as his voice trails and he falls asleep, along with the other guy in the backseat.
The camera pulls out of the vehicle to show the door opening, and a female stepping out of the drivers seat. She has a bag over her shoulder. She reaches in and pulls out a bomb. The timer is set for five minutes. She puts it in the drivers seat and locks the car, shutting the door behind her. She pulls out a trigger button and hits it, starting the countdown.
As she walks away, Vic and the team run out of the building, not in their bomb attire. Renee, however, does have her laptop. She sets it down on the concrete outside the station.
RENEE
I’m getting set up.
Vic stands back with Renee.
VIC
Be careful. We don’t know what it is.
The limo tint on the outside of the limo is making it impossible for them to see. Carter pulls a knife out of his pocket and sits on the hood of the car. He catches his knife on the edge of the tint and gradually starts to peel it off. Chad is working on picking the lock to the back seat, while Malcom is working on picking the lock to the drivers seat. Harper gets down on the ground and looks for something on the underside of the car.
HARPER
Nothing under here.
CHAD
I don’t hear anything going on in the backseat.
Harper pulls herself out from under the car, and immediately begins to work on the trunk. Carter now has enough of the tint peeled off to see the bomb on the front seat.
CARTER
Found it. Front seat.
Harper stops opening the trunk and runs over to where Carter is.
HARPER
3:15. Get me in there.
Carter sits down on the hood, pulls his legs back, and slams his feet into the windshield, breaking it, causing it to fall into the car. The camera pans across the street, to see the woman standing on a corner, watching the events happen. Harper leans into the front, and quickly begins work on the bomb, with Carter shouting back to Renee.
CARTER
Alright, we’ve got a box. Possibly C4.
HARPER
C4 confirmed.
CARTER
C4 confirmed Renee.
HARPER
The timer is crosswired, and we’ve got a purple wire?
CARTER
A purple wire?
RENEE
It’s the Fallistone design.
CARTER
How do you diffuse it?
RENEE
Wait. Turn it over.
HARPER
Are you sure?
RENEE
Positive. Slowly though. Turn it over.
Harper turns over the bomb.
CARTER
Alright now what?
RENEE
There should be a microchip looking thing attached to the bottom.
HARPER
Yeah.
CARTER
Yeah, we’ve got it. Now what?
RENEE
Remove it.
Harper pulls the microchip off the bottom.
RENEE
Now, in this order. Blue, Red, Purple, Yellow. Leave the black wire alone.
Harper does so, noticing then that the purple wire is already cut.
CARTER
Is that it?
RENEE
That’s it.
Chad gets the backseat door open, and a cloud of smoke rolls out from the back.
CHAD
Jesus.
Chad starts coughing and stumbles away from the vehicle. Malcom runs over to him and drags him away from the car. The smoke is thick, and it keeps coming out. The team stands back away from the vehicle and the cloud of smoke.
CHAD
It’s not poison. It’s sleeping gas.
MALCOM
Why aren’t you sleeping then?
CHAD
I’m two sheep shy of a noontime nap.
VIC
Gas masks.
Carter and Malcom run back inside to get the gas masks.
CHAD
So what was the clock at then?
HARPER
54 seconds. (to Renee) What was the chip for?
RENEE
It’s for the remote triggering device. It’s usually used to link multiple bombs
together. The purple wire in this version, however, forms like a triangle from
the chip to the timer, and back. So this was a solo bomb.
HARPER
What if the wire wasn’t there?
RENEE
We’d need to be looking for a second bomb.
The camera zooms into the trunk of the car, where we see a bomb count down from three, two, one…
The camera pulls back out to the team, with Carter and Malcom exiting the building to rejoin the team. The limo suddenly explodes, flying up into the air, and knocking everyone back and to the ground.
The team watches in horror as the car lands, ablaze. They all gradually stand back up, on their feet.
HARPER
The purple wire was already cut.
The team looks at Harper, and back at the car. Carter looks across the street to see the woman smiling.
CARTER
This might not be a lost cause after all.
Carter reaches over and grabs Vic’s gun out of his holster.
VIC
HEY!
Carter runs toward the woman, gun in hand.
VIC
Malcom, go!
Malcom drops his gas gear and follows Carter. The woman notices them running toward her, and starts running.
CARTER
STOP!
The woman runs down an alley, throwing trash in Carter’s way as he gains on her.
CARTER
Lady. I’m with the bomb squad, not the track team.
The woman turns a corner, to find that the alley dead ends. She turns around, trapped. Carter turns the corner and points the gun at the woman.
CARTER
Down! Get down!
The woman puts her hands behind her head and gets down on the ground. Malcom runs around the corner.
CARTER
We need cuffs. Go get cuffs!
Malcom sighs, and runs back to get cuffs.
The scene closes on Carter, with a voiceover from a reporter.
“Sadly, hours after a tragedy was stopped today by LA’s finest, an even greater loss occurred downtown today when Karen Holmes of Malibu, drove the mayor in his limo, only to leave him for dead when his car exploded shortly after two o’clock this afternoon. Holmes has been apprehended, and according to witnesses, does not seem to be showing any signs of remorse. No official statement from the department as to what exactly led to the events that occurred today.”
