Viking Ship Museum

The Viking Ship Museum is very famous. These three Viking ships were used as graves. They were filled with stones, and therefore sank in the soil so that they were preserved for over 1000 years. Two of the ships sank in clay and were preserved because clay contains no oxygen. The third ship was laid in sandy earth, and therefore only the bottom of this ship remains. The Vikings were Danes, Swedes and Norwegians and they traveled all over the world in their ships.

This was a King's burial ship, that was preserved fortuitously. King's Burial ship King's gold chariot An entire chariot, mostly made of gold, was dedicated to this King.
The second most preserved ship was a Queen's burial vessel. Queen's burial ship Gold horse harness from Queen's ship The third ship did not sink entirely in clay, so the top rotted away with time.
