Power Factor Correction Caps
Power factor correction (PFC) capacitors are an important part of any Tesla coil.  With large amounts of current being drawn during operation, they serve as a "holding tank" for the mains power input to the NST's.  Without them, excessive current would be drawn and the NST's would be severely taxed.
The coil will not run efficiently and there's a good chance the mains circuit breaker will trip.
Five 35uf / 330 volt ac oil-filled PFC caps wired in parallel were needed when the coil had 2 NST's.
With the addition of the third NST, more capacitance was required so an additional 3 caps were installed.  This brought the total number of caps to 8 with a capacitance of 280uf at 330 volts.
