'Let's have this baby,' doctor says

COVINGTON, La. -- Elena's doctor has decided to induce labor on Aug. 8 -- if she still is pregnant then.
During an appointment on Monday, her physician decided enough was enough; Lanie's due date is Aug. 15, but she went into premature labor on July 4. So rather than just waiting for things to happen, he decided it might be best for eveyone involved if he forced the moment to its crisis.
Lanie, of course, was relieved -- she's carrying around an 8-pound-plus baby, after all -- but she's not convinced there will be a reason to induce labor.
"I think it's going to happen either today or tomorrow," she said this morning (Tuesday, Aug. 1) to Mike.
It seems contractions at that point were stronger and more frequent than they have been since July 4, making her think it might be "time."
As a result, she, Mike and Sam cancelled a planned trip to the Audubon Zoo. "I'm not going to have my baby at the zoo," she said.
At the same time, though, she has insisted they do something involving walking, in the hopes of hurrying labor.
Looks like they better hurry up and pick a name for the little bugger ...

ENTERGY CRISIS?
NEW ORLEANS -- The mega-merger between New Orleans-based Entergy Corp. and Florida Power & Light should result in lower electric rates for members of the family in Sarasota and

Louisiana, company officials said, but the real question remains: What happens to Bobby?
For the past several years, he has worked as a computer expert for Entergy. But since the new merged company will have its corporate headquarters in Juno Beach, Fla., obvious questions arose: Will Bobby move to Florida? Will his position be eliminated?
   The short answer: Who knows?
"Yeah, I guess it will affect me, but not any time soon," Bobby said in a recent e-mail. "It will take at least a year to finalize the merger. As far as the different business units go, it looks like we'll operate as we are now -- and where we are now -- but all the details still need to be ironed out."
Truth be known, Bobby said, the move was not entirely a surprise. "That's life at Entergy," he said. "Job security has never been too great. Since I've been here, there has always been talks of mergers, buyouts, outsourcing, layoffs, hiring freezes etc. ... I knew that this was the type of working environment Entergy had when I accepted the job. It went down on the short list of cons for life at Entergy."

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
As has been the case for most of the summer, a pair of family members are preparing to embark on summertime adventures.
First up is Bridget, who leaves Aug. 2 to visit ancient ruins and "hostile monkeys" on the Asian subcontinent. She and Mack will spend the next two weeks backpacking through Southeast Asia, visiting Thailand, Camboida, Singapore and other places.
Along the way, the plan to hitch rides on whatever mode of transportation they come across -- buses, cars, mules, whatever.
Liz also is going to pack in as much sightseeing as possible, although she is sticking to one mode of transportation, and hostile monkeys probably won't be involved; later this week she hits the rails for a train trip through Canada and America. She leaves Aug. 5.
Bon voyage, you guys, and don't forget to bring back lots of sourveniers, preferably the kind that you can eat. And maybe a hostile monkey or two.
