Katy to go back to Columbia in style

NEW ORLEANS -- Katy, the tree-huggingest member of the family is preparing to assume ownership of her first car, a Honda Civic that is -- what else? -- green.
With a sponsorship from Artie, Katy cruised car lots last week and decided upon a brand-new 2000 model.
"Dad and I closed the deal on a green Honda Civic today (yay!)," she wrote late Saturday. "We'll pick up the car Tuesday, after I (hopefully) have a license."
She's already saving up to outfit the car, nicknamed "Booger," with a CD player.
And the car is already making life better for her. After getting a haircut she describes as "HORRIBLE," she philsophized: "Oh, well, at least I'll have a nice, new, comfy headrest to hide my awful hair from the world. Funny how life works out like that."

HONORS
COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Never let it be said that we're not an award-winning bunch: Molly recently was given laurels for her soccer talents, while in New Orleans, Liz was collecting yet more awards for her humor writing.
It is the second year in a row Molly was named to the All Bi-City Team. It is also the second year in a row she served as a captain of her team, the Columbus High Blue Devils, and the second year in a row she received the Coach's Award.
"Coach said she was an ambassador between the girls and him when he would say something ridiculous or be in a bad mood," Judy wrote in a recent e-mail.

PICTURE OF THE WEEK: Katy was not scheduled to pick up her new green 2000 Honda Civic until today, so we had to use a little photo magic to imagine what a happy little car it is. This image was taken from the Honda Web site, and is the same model as Katy's __________________________________________

CHANGES
HOUMA -- This month brings the second set of major changes to the family Web site since it went online nearly five months ago.
The most noticable difference is a new flag, which was designed to look a little more refined than the old one. The new version takes a little longer to load, but after you load it the first time, it should update in seconds each subsequent time you access the page.
Another major difference is at the bottom of the page, where you will notice links to our so-called site "sponsors." They really have nothing to do with the site, but they will mail your friendly neighborhood Webmaster a nominal commission if you buy something after clicking on one of the links below. We've been linking to Barnes and Noble for some time now with the Modine link, so we may as well get paid for it, right?
What do you think? Good? Bad? Indifferent? Let us know on the message board.

For her part, Liz is continuing her habit of collecting annual applause for her writing.
She received a second-place award from the Press Club of New Orleans for her monthly humor column written under the pseudonym Modine Gunch. "Grumble," she wrote in an e-mail on Saturday, a bit put off by not taking first. "But today I got a nice surprise in the mail ... Louisiana Press women gave me TWO first-place awards. One for best humor column (Modine, of course), one one for best specializied column -- that was for "Chronicles." The judge's comments were flattering. It was a very nice ego-boost."
   Congratulations to both award winners.

AROUND THE HORN
NEW ORLEANS -- Quick items of interest:
-- Betsy comes back from Vegas today, but Liz leaves for Canada July 13 and Vince is preparing for annual training.
-- Sherry recently accompanied Gus and his class on a field trip to the Audubon zoo. Fun! Fun!
