HOUMA, La -- One word best describes Sam's birthday party: wild. As in jungle. With a half-dozen cousins on hand -- Kelly, Steven and Gus among them -- and countless other relatives, Sammarked his 2nd birthday Saturday with a safari-themed party. Attendees were issued pith helmets, binoculars and treasure bags. They were then sent on a backyard safari, where each had to find a pair of miniature plastic animals hidden in the backyard. They also got an opportunity to color jungle scenes taped to a wall, as well as spend time climbing on Sam's Little Tikes jungle climber -- a birthday present from Mike and Lanie. There were, of course, the regular birthday standards, like cake and ice cream, singing and LOTS of presents. Sam's favorite aspect, though, was spending time with everybody. He had so much fun, in fact, that he decided he'll have a birthday next year, too.
WIPEOUT! Betsy apparently has not given up gymnastics. At least, that's what one can surmise upon reading this recent submission

from Sherry: "Besty was spotted on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 9:08 a.m. doing a gymnastics routine on her bike at Carrollton and Leeke, which resulted in minor scrapes and bruises. "The person she was attempting to wave to -- her sister Sherry -- did not see her, yet fellow employees at Children's Hospital witnessed as she fell face first to the ground. "The close proximity to the local watering hole -- Cooter Brown's -- led to some speculation as to what she had been doing prior to the spill. She claims she was just exercising and her foot got stuck in the pedal." We know better: Sydney 2000 or bust!
PEACHY VISIT The Walshes didn't have to visit the Web site this week to find out what Liz was up to; they found out in person. Liz was in Georgia over the weekend for a journalism conference. She stopped in Columbus to pay a visit to family members there. No word on the specifics of the trip, but we hope to include an update next week.
QUOTABLE QUOTE "Cucu!" - The odd exclamation of a bilingual toy given to Sam by Gramps, aka Artie, when it is switched to "Spanish" mode.
