| COVINGTON -- What? You've lost your maps to Destin again? Honestly, if this keeps up, we're going to have to tattoo it onto your dashboard. Fear not, though. As usual, we've got you covered. Just click here for your maps. But hurry. As usual, Robbie and Magdi have been hard at work nailing down this year's plans, and there's not much time left. As in years past, we've got two maps available, one more detailed than the other. So pack your bags, and your appetite, and get ready for another great year in Destin. |

| COVINGTON -- For the past few weeks, the Big Bad Mamas, coached by Lanie, have kept a firm grip on the top spot in the Family Fantasy Football League. Last week that all changed, as Lesley's team, Medicine Woman, leapfrogged her and staked its claim to the top spot. It's a hard claim to dispute; the two teams played head-to-head this week, and Lesley came out on top by a point. The final score: 68-67. They both have the same record, 6-2, but Lesley's team has scored more points since the beginning of the season, giving her the top spot. WATCH YOUR BACK: In football, nothing can be taken for granted -- even if you're the No. 2 team in the league and you're playing the last-place team, as Dapper Dan, coached by Peter, found himself doing this week against The Georgia Peaches, coached by Mick and Judy. Helped along by a strong showing by the Green Bay Packers defense Monday night, the Peaches thumped Dapper Dan, 51-43. Adding insult to injury: Not only did Peter lose the game, but he also slipped to third place in the league. FLYING BELOW RADAR: Shane and Betsy might not have dominated their opponents to this point in the season, but they've quietly beaten enough of them to stay in the top half of the league. Their latest victim: the hapless Quien Es Tu Papa, coached by Mike Walsh, by a score of 64-32. (Never mind that Mike mailed it in this week; four of his starters were on bye. A win is a win.) If they keep this up, Shane and Betsy's team -- named Uncle Ted -- will be sitting pretty when playoff time rolls around. AND THE BEAT GOES ON: After winning one game in his first five, Mike Scott's team, The Write Stuff, has ripped off three victories in a row, the latest coming against Maillot Jaune, coached by Bobby, by a score of 72-58. That leaves both teams with identical records, 4-5, although Bobby has the tie-breaker edge -- and the inside track for the playoffs -- because his team has scored more points since the season started. | COVINGTON -- There's a lot that can be said about the people at The Times-Picayune and The News-Banner, but this much is undebatable: They've got good eyes. Both newspapers proved that recently in featuring photos of some familiar faces, decked out in their Halloween costumes. After they attended a local pre-Halloween party, Sam, Ben and Gus were featured in The News-Banner, a thrice-weekly newspaper in the Covington area. In the photo, Sam |
| COLUMBUS, GA. -- With the weather turning cold -- or with winter well entrenched, as may be the case with those of us in more frigid climes -- any tips to help keep warm are welcome. And if they come with fond memories, so much the better. That's why we've decided this issue to offer Grandma's Spiced Tea recipe, compliments of Judy. The smell alone will take you back to Upatoi -- or even Hunters Branch Drive, if your memory is good enough. So, here it is, from Grandma's recipe book to yours: GRANDMA'S SPICED TEA 1 cup instant tea 2 cups Tang 2 cups sugar 2 packages Twist lemonade mix 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon ground cloves 1 teaspoon whole cloves Mix ingredients and store as dry mixture in jars. Use 2 to 3 teaspoons mix to 1 cup boiling water. Let steep a few minutes for full flavor. ("I," says Grandma, "mix all ingredients in plastic bag then pour in jars.") |
