La. area code to change

Scores soar in   Week Five of football season

parishes outside of New Orleans, so no other family members should see a change.
   The new area code will go into effect Feb. 12, although the old one still will work through October.
   After that, the new one becomes mandatory and the old one will get callers a curt pre-recorded message.
   "It's an easy number, just over and up," said  Commissioner Jay Blossman. "And it gives the area a unique identity."
    Um. OK. We'll take your word for it, Jay.

COVINGTON-- Last week was an offensive one as far as the family fantasy football league goes, and we mean that in the best way possible.
   In what was far and away the most productive week so far this year, two teams scored more than a hundred points, a feat only accomplished once in the previous four weeks.
   The Big, Bad Mamas, coached by Lanie, scored more points than anyone, with 104. BludUndEisen, Bobby's team, also scored big, with 102.
   The A-Team, coached by Mike, fell just short of the century mark, racking up 94 points.

COVINGTON, La. -- Get out your address books, because there are soon going to be changes to make.
    As it has done throughout the country, the proliferation of cell phones and pagers has led to a scarcity of phone  numbers in Louisiana. As a result, the state Public Service Commission last month decided to divide up the state's 504 area code.
   Among the 350,000 phone customers who will no longer fall under the 504

umbrealla are some familiar faces: Mike and Bobby's families.
   Effective early next year, they will shed the old area code and assume the new one, 985. The rest of their phone numbers will remain unchanged.

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Since she returned to school, Katy has been hard to get in touch with to say the least, but she has a good excuse: She's been quite busy.
   A recent check of the Missouri Digital News, which publishes online versions of stories from The Missourian, showed nine stories with her byline.
