Fantasy Football League kicks off

COVINGTON -- It didnt take long for the Family Fantasy Football Leagues 2001 champ to be humbled.
   In the first week
of the new season,
Mike Scotts
team, The Write
Stuff, lost a one-
point heartbreaker
to
Shane and Bestys squad, Uncle Ted. The final score was 69.48-68.44.
The loss came on the heels of some pre-game trash talking on the part of Mike. I send them a sympathy card last weekend apologizing in advance for the drubbing I was certain they would receive, Mike said. Im feeling kinda stupid right now.
DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE: Looks like Mike Walsh, coach of Quien es tu Papa, wasnt just being modest when he disputed his being selected as the pre-season favorite by the Commissioners Office. He just might have been being honest.
The Papas were soundly defeated by the Big Bad Mamas,
Lanies team. Going into Monday nights game, the Mamas held the lead and still had one player who had yet to take the field. The Papas players were all finished with their games by Sunday night.
Now we know who wears the pants in this league.
WELCOME TO THE FFFL: Dapper Dan, the follicularly obsessed team coached by Lanies brother Peter, learned quick that life in the Family Fantasy Football League can be rough.
In his coaching debut, he found himself on the losing end of a 96.09-81.62 game, compliments of Maillot Jaune, coached by
Bobby, the 2000 league champs.
Maillout Jaunes performance also brought up a good question: Who needs Marshall Faulk?
For the past two years, Bobby has ridden Faulk to FFFL success. This year, though, Lesley took Faulk with the first overall pick of the FFFL. What does Bobby do? He takes Priest Holmes, who scored four touchdowns for him Sunday, helping to muss Dapper Dans perfectly coiffed do.
MEDIC!: Mick and Judy's team, the perennial powehouse  Georgia Peaches, found themselves ailing after squaring off with Lesley's team, Medicine Woman.
Going into Monday night's game, the Peaches were down 88.23- 61.46.
RELIVE THE GLORY: Peruse the league record books.

COVINGTON -- With the realization that they make perfect babies, Mike and Lanie have decided to go for the trifecta.
Thats right, Lanie recently found out that, once again, she is pregnant. It is her third time.
She is about five weeks along and has yet to show the effects, other than morning sickness, headaches and general fatigue. (You sure its not just West Nile virus? Mike asked.)
Perhaps the person most excited about the new baby is big brother
Sam. I want you to have another baby for Ben, he said, referring to his little brother, when he learned the news. Because I know Ben likes babies.
Bens response was a little more self-serving: I want some cereal.
So is it a boy or a girl? Its way too early to tell, but the mom and dad to-be have every intention of finding out as soon as possible. Im a firm believer in painting the nursery early, Mike said.
An interesting note: Since Bens birth, Mike and Lanies health insurer has changed hospital affiliations. So while the new baby will be delivered by the same doctor as Ben, they will be born in different hospitals. That means each of the three siblings will have been born in different institutions: Sam at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, Ben in St. Tammany Parish
Hospital, and the new baby for  whom a name has yet to be selected in Lakeview Regional Medical Center.
FEEDING HIS HEAD: As if being a big brother two times over isnt proof enough that hes a big boy, Sam took another big step recently: His first day of preschool was last week.
He showed some trepidation at being separated from his Mom and Dad. But at the suggestion of baby guru Sherry, he goes every day armed with a snapshot of Lanie, which he said he
looks at whenever I miss Of course, it doesnt hurt that his class has three great teachers and that his friend Alexa, who lives across the street, is in his class.
Already, hes enjoying it. And for good reason: This week, the letter of the week is c, and one of his fellow students was assigned to bring in a c snack on Monday. The selected snack was cookie cake (worth extra points, if you ask me), eliciting raves from Sam.
"It had cookies AND icing," he said.
