Fantasy league getting ready to again kick off
Liz's travels have taken her to eastern Europe, including Russia, and by the look of some of her recent writings, the computer keyboards there must have Cyrillic characters. Here is a portion of one of her recent messages, odd punctuation and capitalization preserved, as it appeared in her children's e-mail boxes recently: "We have gotton on trains, without knowing the language, in moscow, St. ptersburg, helsinki, Riga, WArsaw and krakow now in Budapest. Bucharest next. Five languages we have not spoken a word of so far. i feel like indiana jones. Too many adventures. I hear it is raining in New Orleans. What else is new? I took pictures of the great St. Steven Basislca to show to Steven. ... I get a fair amount of e mail from katy. Got a nice long messge from Bridget. I am allowed 15 minutes on this computer, which is why I am writng everyone at once. Hope to hear from one or many of you soon. I am a bit homesick." Dop her an e-mail at [email protected] to make her feel a little closer to home.

The Columns Hotel was the site recently of Bridget and Mack's wedding, and family members converged from all corners of the country -- Georgia, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina and Indiana for starters -- to witness the blessed event. Among the highlights were some good New Orleans cookin' and the festive sounds of the Treme Brass Band.

Are you ready for some football? NFL players have reported to training camp, and that can mean only one thing: The Family Fantasy Football League is on the cusp of its second breakthrough season. As was the case last year, anyone interested in participating is encouraged. Even those without little football knowledge likely will find it fun. "Let me stand as evidence of that," said Bobby, manager of last year's champions, the enigmatically named BludUndEisen. "I'm a complete and utter moron. And I cheat. Boy, oh, boy do I ever cheat!" Also like last year, we will be using Yahoo as our league host and stat-tracker, so those of you who want to take part will need to sign up for a free Yahoo account. at www.yahoo.com By way of getting a head count, those who are interested should leave a message on the message board saying so. From there, I will get the league rolling and notify everyone when we can sign in. So sign up now, and let the games begin!
