Membership of the club is open to anyone with a keen interest in hillwalking.   Prior to committing oneself to taking out membership, those interested are afforded an opportunity to attend a number of our Easy Hikes to get a feel for the activity and if satisfied invest in the necessary equipment needed and build up to attend  our more difficult activities.

Our easier walk / hikes consist of distances up to 10 miles with minimal climbing generally along coastal or canal paths, forest tracks and progressing to slightly shorter hikes on the open mountainside with distances of up to 7 or 8 miles with up to 1,000ft in ascent.    Non-members are restricted to the easier hikes, but those attending must be sufficiently fit to complete the activity..   Time wise our easier hikes can take up to 4 hours of walking with a lunch break for about 30mins.  As necessary other breaks are taken.   Anyone thinking of attending our activities for the first time must be sufficiently fit to manage 3 to 4 hrs of walking.   Remember when you go onto the open mountainside, depending on the individual hike generally there is no turning back.   The hikes are planned so that those attending will enjoy the activity, see the scenery, take a photograph or two and will not be an endurence test that will frighting people out of their wits.   We must ensure that those attending our activities are sufficiently capable of conducting the activity so as not to put undue delays on the group.   To this end we insist on all newcomers attending the easier hikes and progress to the more difficult ones.    Those who have been out before please bear with our rule as I am sure you completely understand our caution.    Some will progress faster than others while some will opt to stay on the easier hikes.   Please note that you must be sufficiently fit to complete our activities and the leaders ruling is final in cases where he / she feels that the activity may be beyond a visitor capabilities.

Our individual membership at the moment is TBA  ( incl posage ) and the hillwalking year runs from November 1st to October 31st.     This fee includes affiliation fee to MCI ( Mountaineering Council of Ireland), quarterly copy of MCI "Mountain Log"  and personal public liability insurence to cover hillwalking activities).     Further details on Club Membership page.

Anyone with previous experience and would like to join is cordially welcome .   Leaders are particularly in demand.

Our hikes generally take place in the Dublin / Wicklow mountains.    However we have completed a number of weekend hikes in the mountains of Mourne, Co. Down and the Comeragh Mountains.   We have visited the Blackstairs and members have walked in the Kerry, the Cooleys, Connemera and  Mayo mountains as well as coastal cliff walking in Donegal around Glencolumcille.   Other areas within Ireland have also been visited.   The club has attended a number of walking festivals over the past few years and plans to repeat that this year.

The club is in its infancy still, so we have not had an opportunity to visit abroad as a club.   However individuals have visited and walked in the French Alps and the Austrian Tirol region.   The German Alps have been visitied on more than one occasion by one of our members.

We complete at four hikes per month.    Keep an eye out for our "Activities Page" which will contain details of Dates, Area for our hike, meeting point and timings.   Our normal meeting point is in front of the Glenroyal Leisure Club, Maynooth before  9 am and depart to the activity area at 9 am sharp.    We usally travel by car but we are planning to use minibus(s) transport more in the future.   In this instance seats will have to be paid for in advance at the time of booking.   Refunds will only be made where buses have to be cancelled due to inadequate support for the activity.
