The Lonesome Turtle and Mr. Snuffluphagus
. . . . . . . . . . .
This is the story of how a lonely ol' turtle met Mr. Snuffluphagus.

There once was a turtle who lived in a deep valley with tall steep cliffs on either side.

One day, the turtle became bored, sitting around his home. He decided to make the long 30 foot trip to his neighbor's home.

It took him almost an hour to get there, but he made it.

But when he got there, he found that his neighbor was not home. He didn't want to make the long trip back home, but he had to go soon if he was to get home before dark.

So, home he went, wishing along the way that he had a friend that he could hang out with and laugh with and that would stay with him forever.

. . . . . . . . . . .

It was kind of late in the day when Mr. Snuffluphagus went for a walk. He knew it would be cold, so he took along a brightly-colored quilt that his mom had made for him. He threw it over his back to keep warm.

He walked for quite a while before he started to get sleepy. His eyes began to slowly close. He opened them again and tried to wake up, but they just kept trying to close. Before he knew it, he was walking along the edge of the valley cliffs. He didn't know just how close he was to the cliffs. He was so tired and sleepy that he didn't even realize when he came to a turn in the ground. He walked right over the edge and began to fall.

. . . . . . . . . . .

The turtle was about half way home when he noticed a shadow surrounding him. It was getting larger and larger. He looked up and all he could see was something that seemed to be coming closer.

He tried to move faster to get out of the way, but he didn't quite make it.

Whatever was falling landed almost completely over him, missing only his head, neck, and one front leg.

The quilt that Mr. Snuffluphagus was wearing landed back on top of the two of them, spread out.

After the turtle finally wiggled his way out from under Mr. Snuffluphagus, he helped him up. When they were sure they were both o.k., the turtle invited Mr. Snuffluphagus over to his home for dinner.

They ate, and told funny stories that they laughed about.

After dinner, they promised each other that they would always be together and would watch out for each other.

. . . . . . . . . . .

And that is how the lonesome turtle met Mr. Snuffluphagus.
