Personal: We began thinking of adopting internationally in the Fall of 1999. We had hoped to adopt an infant domestically in July of 1999, but the birthmother chose not to place her child for adoption after all. It was a devastating blow -- for several months we could not imagine putting our hearts at risk again. In December, we decided we were ready to take the first steps toward international adoption, and sent in our I-600A to the INS. We've been paperchasing ever since, and were ecstatic to learn that our dossier was sent to China on 5/18/2000. Now, it begins to seem real. |

We are anxiously awaiting the time when we can begin life with our daughter. We're very excited about traveling to China, although a little daunted when we think about traveling with an infant! It will be an adventure. |

We have gotten involved with the central Iowa chapter of FCC, and have found it very encouraging to see all the happy, healthy daughters of those who have made this journey before us. We are reading books about China, and have vowed to eat Chinese food using chopsticks at least once a week while we are waiting for referral. It seemed like a good way to mark off the time -- hopefully, we will only have about 35 more chances to practice with chopsticks before getting the referral! |
