Ramblings

rivers of stone between us
keeping us so far
you'd think that we're as close
as a distant star
beauty surrounds my jaded eyes
clouded by visions of harsh reality
always pressing close
clouding the beauty of the skies
hate and pain
and fear and loss
all pushing it upon you
smothering your view
taking your heart
and stealing your breath

the fire that once burned so bright
with passion and energy
and care and joy
is now almost lost
in the wind
in the rain
light is unsteady
flickering and glowing
the flashes etching dark pictures
against a dead midnight
the wax that dripped
down the side
has filled the holes
extinguishing pride
how could i know
that his eyes had lied
all glossed over
with such foolish pride
it hurt so much
i almost cried
but it faded away
as i kept it inside

it's just so unfair
the way we've been denied
if there's so little there
i wonder why you tried
but then you came out grinning
expression so snide
would you even care
if my soul had died
love is lost
in a big, bright field
where the aliens came
and abducted it away
making all left
want only to stay
hoping for a brighter sun
on a glorious day

so in the fields
of tall, green grass
we lay anticipating
a whole new way
a way of seeing things
so very clear
putting it off
for just one more year
forevermore waiting
for love to appear
so close, so far
too unreachable, always near
but never approached
always too full of fear
so we watch, so patiently
for the repression to disappear
no clear sight
in the directions we peer

the paths are always narrow
promising heartache and sorrow
but taunting that tomorrow
all will be well
and we're under its spell
it's hypnotic trance
we cannot repel
into your eyes
i so quickly fell
and next i was yours
like the ring of a bell
and i can't demonstrate
all the hate i feel
for loving me
and leaving me
or for never loving me at all
i thought actions were supposed to speak louder than words.
