[The camera switches to show the General Manager pacing around the
back of the arena, only to be interrupted by an interviewer who,
apparently, has been in pursuit of him for a while. As he is
approached by Gonzales, he would look less than pleased.]
Gonzales: Mr Stoate! Mr Stoate, could I have
a few quick questions?
[Stoate would pause mid-step for a second or two before rolling
his eyes, and as if it was the hardest thing in the world to do,
pausing and looking at him. He would say sternly in a voice that
suggested that he was above the lowly interviewer. In many cases, I
suppose, he is, and he was certainly milking the ranking.]
Stoate: You can have one question.
[Gonzales would blink before taking it with gratitude.]
Gonzales: Alright, thanks.
[He would begin to word the question carefully, speaking in the
manner that one might if they were given but one wish.]
Gonzales: Mr Stoate. It was revealed a few
weeks ago that Edward Walker was giving you more shares in the
company. Can you tell us more about that?
[Stoate would smile, half pondering the idea of just replying:
'Yes', and telling the eager interviewer that he had answered the
question as requested, but he decides to take it further. Might be
nice to rub it in a little bit. He'd shift his stance a little bit
before smiling and saying.]
Stoate: That's right. President Walker
&endash;has- given me more shares in the company. And this is going
to give me license to do things a little bit better around here. I
can start to make some changes that I want to see happen. You know
last week, when I saw it appropriate to intervene in The Hobo's
match?
[Gonzales would nods hesitantly.]
Stoate: Well that was an example. You see, I
decided that I wanted to take the outcome of matches into my own
hands a little bit.
JP: That's sickening. 'Taking them into his
own hands'. You can't do that. You can't disrupt matches in that way.
It's not right.
[Stoate resumes.]
Stoate: Well, I thought that it was high
time that The Hobo had a break. Yeah, sure, he smells, and he doesn't
speak great English, but he is loyal. He is loyal, and I happen to be
a fan of his ability. I wanted to make sure that he got what he
deserved.
JP: He practically fixed the damn match. And
it was damn obvious that he only helped The Hobo out in order to keep
him on his side.
Sully: Everyone needs friends, JP.
JP: But he has 'lackies'.
[Stoate smiles smugly.]
Stoate: I'm different to other General
Managers, Joe. That's your name, right?
[Of course, he doesn't permit the interviewer to reply, but just
continues.]
Stoate: I'm very different. Your normal,
your average General Manager would sit back and let things happen. I
don't. I take things into my own hands, as I demonstrated. And with
the more shares I get, the more responsibility I have. The more
responsibility to make sure thatthe &endash;right- things happen.
The right things to the federation. The right things to the people
that I believe deserve them. And the right things to me.
[He leaves it at his, smiling patronisingly before carefully
ushering the interviewer aside in the same manner as someone would a
child before strolling leisurely away from the scene.]
JP: He's sickening. He's not acting
appropriately at all!
Sully: Well, Edward Walker is keeping him
around for a reason.
JP: God only knows what that is.
Sully: I wish you wouldn't idolise Mr Walker
so much. It's not healthy.
