2003 State of the Classic
My goodness...Is the Maxwell Classic six years old already?  It seemed like only yesterday that we were filling out posterboards rather than checking THE leaderboard. The truth is our little tournament is growing up, and it is maturing at a rate that few imagined.  At this year's Classic, specatators will gaze upon uniformed players, a crack staff, finely manicured greens, enticing food, homemade brews, and countless other novel nuances that make the Maxwell, a classic.

Unfortunate to have missed the formative years of the event, many new faces may not recognize how far the tournament has come.  They may not realize that the level of play has improved each and every year, and that each and every year there is a new staff member contributing fresh ideas.  They may not know that returning staff members are contributing even more than they did in previous years, or that returning golfers are working even harder to bring home the
Yellow Pinnie. Despite the fact that they may have missed the growing pains of the tournament, they will finally understand what the rest of us are rattling on about. They will have asked, "You're going to a golf tournamment in some guy's back yard?", for the last time.  They will finally, "see it."

For the rest of us it will be another stroll around
Sheflin Acres, but isn't Sheflin Acres beginning to fell like memory lane?  The tournament has a history now and for everyone who has ever contributed a sign, a bag of chips, a delicious dessert, a cooler, an epic poem, or even a memorable birdie on 18, welcome back.  All of us, by our enthusiasm, creativity and sincere commitment to one weekend in July have created an event that is immeasurably special for its organizers, participants, spectators, and honoree alike.

For us a yellow pinnie is
THE Yellow Pinnie...A collection of bushes and trees is The Island...red is Red, blue is Blue, and their ain't no in between...What other even could turn a bird bath into The Birdbath?

Rev' up the grille.  Chill the beer. Steady your club, or pull up a chair.  The Maxwell Classic has seen it all, but we're sure there is more to see...at least for those of us who can "see it."
