Clean and Protect Your System!
I have the MyDoom Worm
Start by unpluging your internet connection and restarting your computer in "safe mode".Now use the disk cleanup utility.Check all the boxes. Next, clean out any "temp" folders. You may want to use BeClean for this. Open Windows Explorer (not internet explorer) and under tools/folder options/view, check "show hidden files and folders".Make sure you are using a anti-virus program that has resident (runs all the time) scanning and auto-updating. Run a full scan of your system with your  updated anti-virus program. Plug in your internet connection, reboot normally and then scan with HouseCall, PestScan, BitDefender and Panda. Write down what they found (name, location) and let them fix it. Install Spybot Search+Destroy including the resident scanner "tea timer",download all updates, and use the "immunize" button and scan your system. It will create a backup of the changes made. You should install Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard next.Make sure you update them. They run all the time in the background. Now install AdAware, update and run it. Leave everything it finds in quarantine until you are sure it is not needed. If you want a extra layer of protection install WinPatrol. It keeps watch for changes to your system. Now run Bazooka, SwatIt and KL-Detector .Another big problem is ActiveX,use Script Sentry and Script Defender to help control it.Microsoft added some new controls to IE6 but I don't know if it enough.I do know if you are still using win9x, the new features are not available for you so it is a good idea to install a ActiveX blocker.Use Firefox for your browser,it doesn't use ActiveX, but for some sites you must use IE6. Microsoft VM has some issues too.Get the real Java from Sun. Now install RegCleaner and RegSeeker. These will help keep your registry clean. Run them both and don't forget to set them to create a backup for you (if you remove something you shouldn't).
            If that hasn't worked,
HijackThis will provide a log that can be looked at.Run the program and don't let it fix anything yet.Instead submit the log to a HijackThis forum. They will help you ID the offending file. Another scanner for browser hijackers is CWShredder .
Some good add-ons for IE6 are,
Google Toolbar which has a popup stopper and a Phishing blocker Netcraft Toolbar (they will be making one for Firefox soon).

               SPAM-it's not just canned meat!
The amount of spam these days is out of control. I got 7 e-mails just today that were infected! Here are some things we can do about it. Use a mail service that offers filters.Yahoo+Hotmail(there are a few others)have filters that you can eaisly set up to catch the junk. Most e-mail programs(like Thunderbird)have junk mail filters. You can use a mail"washing" program. There are a number to choose from.I have used Mailwasher,SPAMfighter,Benign
and have had good results.

I was looking for a good registry editor.I found  one called Registry Editor Plus.It is on the PC-Mag site but you have to pay to download from PC-Mag these days-too bad for us.I have located a site to still get it free here.It is for Win 95,98 and ME only.I use RegEditX for XP but it works on 9x too.
If you think your computer is secure click here for a test.It won't do anything to harm your system but it will show you if you are as safe as you assume.
