Dead Kennedys Review
By: Eric Borchers, ME!
To me, the band Dead Kennedys was a kick-ass, very political, very fast punk band. The band, formed in 1978 in San Francisco, and broken up in late 1986, consisted of five people in the beginning, and ended with four original members. Jello Biafra(AKA: Eric Boucher) was the vocals, East Bay Ray was the guitarist, bass was Klaus Fluoride, another guitarist known to the public as "6025," and the drummer Ted(AKA: Bruce Slesinger). In mid-1981, Slesinger was replaced by D.H. Peligro.
In July 1978, after a brief rehearsal period the Dead Kennedys played there first show. They were a hit(I wasn't there, so I can't tell you anymore than that. Ha.)
In 1980 Dead Kennedys toured England, and Biafra introduced them to stage-diving, now A common occurence in concerts, but then it was unknown. After the not-so-good success of there first album "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables" which was due to the poor manufacturing of the LPs, there second LP, "In God We Trust Inc." The speed and pure power of this album left most reviewers breathless and the fans pleased.
There next album, "Plastic Surgery Disasters" in 1982, was suggested to be the bands finest set of songs. Very political and had shit loads of energy. There next album, "Frankenchrist" in 1985 was supposedly "indirectly" responsible for the eventual breakup of the band. After lawsuits and all that political shit, they broke up in late 1986, and in 1987 they released a group of hits, "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death" or something of that title.
The single band that reminds me of the Dead Kennedys has to be System of A Down. That is the only band that has the speed and political speech of Dead Kennedys. Check out some Dead Kennedys and System of A Down material if you haven't before.

Peace
