Top Ten
MOVIE BAD GUYS
They're lean.  They're mean.  And they're the last ten people/ beings/ machines/ programs on or off the planet Earth whom I'd like to encounter in a dark alleyway!  Please note that I'm defining a "bad guy" as something different than a "Movie Monster," like Jason Vorhees or Freddy Krueger.  These are sinister, villainous antagonists with a mission, a goal.  They have purpose, and unlike "monsters" like Jason or Freddy, these baddies have a purpose that goes well above and beyond the simplicity of murdering half- naked teenage girls.  They are all driven by some form of desire, albeit conquering the earth, killing the mother of a future resistance fighter, or making a buck.  They're as intimidating as they are ruthless... and that's why we love them!
(10) Bricktop (Alan Ford) "Snatch" - One of my favourite character's from the Screen Gem's film "Snatch."  Infamous for delivering scripts about feeding human beings to pigs to his victims, Bricktop is one of the most ruthless characters in London's seedy criminal underworld.  A shady boxing promoter who has a reputation for tossing fights to earn some extra loot, Bricktop employs a unique blend of street and scare tactics to "influence" those he wishes to utilize in some shape or form.

(9) Zorg (Gary Oldman) "The Fifth Element" - The leader of Zorg Industries, Zorg is intelligent and plotful while suffering from an inability to control his temper.  He made this top ten list because of his ruthless demeanor and undying affection for the role of ruler of the planet Earth.  His character may have been underwritten in this film, but if you hand a role to Gary Oldman, particularly a bad-guy role, you can expect him to leave a lasting impression on moviegoers.

(8) Fallon (Denis Leary) "Judgment Night" - If you haven't seen this movie, I have less respect for you.  Fallon is a loud-mouth, small-time gangster with a ragtag team of hooligans in his employ.  When one of his thugs rips him off, he executes him... but unfortunately, an RV- full of suburbanites witness the murder, so Fallon must chase them through the dismal ghettos of Chicago.  This is unquestionably Denis' finest work as an actor, and he proves that even stand-up comics can play spine-cracking, nerve-shattering bad guys.

(7) Simon Pheonix (Wesley Snipes) "Demolition Man" - After being captured by John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone) and cryogenically frozen in a special prison, Simon Pheonix is unthawed for a parole hearing several decades in the future... in a world where people have been desensitized to just about everything, and it's almost illegal to not be smiling.  He's a blood-thirsty criminal on a rampage, controlled by the city's leader who wants him to assassinate none- other than Denis Leary.

(6) Hannibal Lechter (Anthony Hopkins) "Silence of the Lambs" - It's hard for me to explain why Hannibal Lecter made this list, as opposed to a "Monsters" list like Jason or Freddy.  Hannibal Lecter seems more humane than the "monsters," and much more tactical in thought and concept, so therefore I felt he belonged on this list moreso than a monster's list.

(5) SID 6.7 (Russell Crowe) "Virtuosity" - SID 6.7 is a rude, crude, and ultimately sinister computer program/ virus who spreads into the real world.  He provides his own comic relief, and sheds not an ounce of fear during his terror- reign in the future.

(4) The Predator (Kevin Peter Hall & Stan Winston) "The Predator" - The Predator is an alien hunter from another planet who comes to earth in search of human trophies.  He uses an assortment of hunting tools, such as a variety of visual tools and a cloaking mechanism, to search for he prey.  But unlike most Hollywood aliens, the Predator is a fallable life form.  As invincible as it may seem, it knows pain and gets injured just as you'd expect any life form to.
(3) Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) "Die Hard" - Just about everyone whose anyone who knows me is fully aware that Die Hard is my absolute favourite movie of all time, and a major aspect of why that's a fact is because Hans Gruber, the German leader of the terrorist/ armed robber pack, is one of the greatest bad guys in movie history.  He's well refined and orthodox, high class and well educated.  Hans Gruber could easily be mistaken for a business man or college professor.  What makes him so sinister is his approach to taking control of Nakatomi Plaza... he's not intimidating like most of the other bad guys on this list, where you'd fear his braun or love of the colour of blood, but rather his tact and absolute wit... and his love of the colour of money.

(2) The Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) "The Terminator" - In my humble opinion, Stan Winston is the most brilliant special effects wizard in Hollywood, and his work on the Terminator truly proves that point.  The Terminator is a stops-at-nothing killing machine sent back in time from the future to assassinate Sarah Connor, the mother of John Connor, the man who leads his race in a resistance against the machines that took control of the planet and eradicated most of humanity.  I won't go into a long- winded explanation/ description of the Terminator, as I'm sure you already know who and what The Terminator is... and I'm sure it's more than apparent already why he/ it made this top ten list!

(1) Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) "The Matrix" - Yes, Agent Smith is number one... and if you're wondering why, you need to go watch any of the three Matrix films again!  Agent Smith is a corrupt computer program in The Matrix, a virtual- reality world that exists so we, humanity, don't flip out and try to take the world back from the computers that run our lives.  Agent Smith can dodge bullets, leap from building to building, duplicate himself... and these are just a few reasons why Agent Smith would be the most formidable anything to be confronted by!  If you beg to differ that someone/ something else should be numero uno on this top ten list, watch the Matrix again, and think about what your bad-guy in question would do against this evil-of-all-evil movie baddies!
