| Biography & Art Statement Max (Margaret) Fung, born in East Malaysia and of Chinese/Filipino descent, has lived and worked in Hong Kong, Singapore, Switzerland and France. During the mid 1970's she studied fine art painting at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and in the late 80s early 90s she was actively involved in creative photography as an assistant Photographer, traveling throughout Europe, South-East Asia and USA. In 1999 she arrived in Canada and presently lives and works in the Greater Napanee area. Max took up art full-time in 1997 and has since concentrated on painting with acrylic on paper and on foam-core board. She enjoys studying all the various colour mixes as she works with spatulas, brushes, combs and trowels. Due to her Chinese influence, Max uses mostly bright colours, especially red which signifies "Luck". Her paintings are done in a spontaneous fashion and are all non-representational. She has exhibited in Galleries around the Golden Horseshoe area, particularly in St. Catharines, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Hamilton, Dundas, Burlington as well as Brampton. Her work can be seen in the Quinte Region and Kingston. Many of her art pieces are also on view in her private Art-Park Gallery in Napanee, and showings are available by appoint-ment only. Statement Theres nothing quite as elating as the peaceful, spiritual, spontaneous pursuit of artistic expression, and that is what I base my work on. Combined with an unlimited use of ideas, methods and media, my paintings show my state of mind at the time of their creation. They also tend to reflect the moods I am in while working, and I usually play with colours, combinations, textures until my work feels complete and enriching. |
