Not For You

Formed in 1996 Not For You still retains an original line up. Matt, Dave, Wayne, Joel and Rob from the suburbs of Sydney decided to play the music that they wanted to hear for themselves which no one around seemed to be playing. The scene in Sydney at this time was predominately old school thus, limiting the bands exposure. Although, Not for You were more comfortable with their style notwithstanding the criticism they had received from most. Such criticism had no impact on the band who felt confident with the new school style they proudly introduced to the scene. Never before had the band been more satisfied with their music.

What started off as a pastime, later developed into a talent, which broadened the musical abilities of both the individuals and the band. This would later give rise to the entity that has become Not For You. As their abilities progressed and musical tastes broadened, they soon found themselves under the mystical spell of hardcore, playing their first hardcore show on the 3rd January 1997 at the Iron Duke with Ceasefire & Drawback, they received an overwhelming response from all who attended.
Playing shows with bands such as Mindsnare, Drawback and Straight To A Tomb had a heavy influence on the band and their sound soon developed a distinct metallic sound. Not For You soon found themselves playing a more complex and heavier form of hardcore that most would categorise as new school

In March of 99 they teamed up with now defunct Melbourne band Ultimatum to do a split CD release on Trial and Error that has since sold all copies released. Response to the CD was very positive particuarly in Adelaide and Melbourne. Not For You in 2000 went on to release an 8 song debut CDEP which also successfully sold all copies pressed. Tours following up the release were successful playing a double launch titled "the Hardcore Halocaust" in Melbourne with Adelaide's Day Of Contempt. Coming soon will be the release of the Not For You / Embodiment 12:14 split which will be out January 2002 on Trial and Error Records. Following this forthcoming release should see the band touring New South Wales, Melbourne and Adelaide in 2002.

Now five years strong, Not For You remain as one of the only Australian hardcore bands still going that has retained its original line up. This they claim is the secret to their success, that and a mutual respect for each other's individual talents.
