He was the son of George Jackson and Mary? The son of a farming family, he left Lincolnshire as a young man to learn the Potatoe trade at Smithfield market in Manchester. From family information, he did so well that he taught others the trade, but unfortunately his lking for his “pint” was his downfall and he lost his business. He married a Salford lass, Esther Hulme Hay and his children were born in Manchester. He spent the rest of his working life, a total of 28 years, on the trams of Manchester Corporation and died in 1938 after a series of stokes. |
