After taking a bodyguard job for a mysterious client, the two end up on an adventure that will take them all over the galaxy trying to discover the mystery of the "Galactic Leyline".
Along the way they team up with an bio-android named Melfina, an assassin named Twilight Suzuka, and a Kataro-Kataro named Aschia Clan-Clan. The group, of course, has many setbacks along the way, such as the McDougal brothers, a giuld of unbeaten assassins, space pirates, and futuristic wizards.
The storyline is well written, and is somewhat easy to follow. The series has just the right amount of action, drama, and humor. The animation is superb, and of course the characters are truely memorable. Of course, these feelings may just come from the fact that I stayed up until five o'clock the next morning watching the series.
Orphaned at a young age, Gene grew up taking care of himself, somewhere along the way he picked up and took a boy named Jim Hawking under his wing. Gene can be somewhat thick headed at times and exceptionally full of himself, that is, when he's not make some smart-allleked remark due to his own ignorance.
Genes more level headed partner, he is a genius when is comes to mechanics and computers. He is always looking to help out even when the profit is less than the overall gain.He also enjoys pointing out and making fun of Genes own ignorance of the situation.
A bio-andriod stolen from the Kae Pirates and awakened by Gene and Jim. She was built to guide the Outlaw Star to the Galactic Leyline, but she wishes to find out more about her past and who built her. She is extremely kind and adds a much needed nurturing effect to the crew.
A member of the Kataro-Kataro, she can literally transform into a ferocious creature when angered. She meets Gene during a slight mis-understanding and makes it her mission to defeat him, however, after numerous screw-ups, she decides to join him on his quest for the Galactic Leyline, so that she may take the "treasure" that is rumored to be there back to the Kataro-kataro and regain her honor.
An assassin hired to kill a man named Fred Lowe, however when he hires Gene to protect him from Suzuka, she becomes intrigued by him and joins him to learn more about him and what he stands for.
