Crossed Wires
Prologue

	Zero turned to face a female reploid.  She smiled brightly.  X came running up behind 
her.  He too was smiling.
	"You're alright!"  She said, her stormy blue eyes full of admiration.
	"You had us worried."  Said X.
	Zero was silent.  An odd smile crossed his lips.  He pulled his Z-Saber and, before 
either could react, he plunged it into the abdomen of the female reploid.  She cringed in pain 
and looked up at him in confusion before the life left her eyes and she collapsed.  Zero smiled 
down at her, his hands stained with her blood.  X stared in horrified shock.  He knelt at the 
girl's side and looked up at Zero.
	"Zero...  Why?"  He asked in a shaky voice.
	Without a word, Zero turned and walked away.  As he left he could hear X lightly sobbing, 
repeating quietly:
	"Wake up...  Wake up..."
	"..."
	"WAKE UP, ZERO!!!!!!"
	Zero's eyes shot open, and he sat up so quickly he almost bashed heads with X.
	"What?!  Who?!  Where?!"  He asked.  The he realized…  It was only a dream.
	"When?  Why?  How?"  Said X with a cheerful smile.
	"Only a dream."  Zero said with a sigh.
	"What was?"  X asked.
	"My dream."  Zero said flatly.
	"Obviously."  X said.  "What was it about?"
	"Did you want something, X?"  Zero said, changing the subject.
	"You're late."  X said Cheerfully.  "Training started a half-hour ago.  You're meeting 
the new hunters today... remember?"  With a moan and a swear, Zero took of down the hall.

	He reached the training yard and came to a sudden halt.  There, with the other new 
recruits, was a female reploid.  She had raven-black hair except for one lock of dove white.  Her 
armor was a silvery-blue and her eyes were the color of the sky on a stormy day.  She was the 
girl from his dream.  The same girl with the same bright smile and the same haunting, stormy blue 
eyes.
	X finally caught up to Zero.  Confused by him staring off seemingly in a daze, he 
followed Zero's gaze and spotted the female reploid.  He smiled.
	"That's Beta.  She's new."  He said.  "She just got here an hour ago."
	Zero stared at her for a long moment, his mind racing... Then he heard a muffled clang 
and everything went black
