A place called home
A story of a truly wonderful universe… that's not as far off as it may seem.
"The sky was painted green today. Funny, I had heard weathermen saying to look out for black skies. Ah… it's never a bad thing to have green sky, though. Although it looks a bit silly with the grass. At least it isn't robin egg blue like yesterday. That was just odd," explained Miss Ellen to Miss Leila. Miss Leila replied, "Why, robin egg blue? How odd, dear, never seen that one. I wish the sky was painted swirl down here. I miss it, they left it up for weeks and I grew accustomed to the colors whirling around like mad. They really must put it up again, and when they do, you simply must come and visit!" "But of course, dear!" the enthusiastic Miss Ellen replied, "why I've never even seen your cottage." "You haven't? Oh, yes, you haven't! Then we'll simply have to plan a visit. It'll be wonderful!", squealed Miss Leila.
By now I've lost you. I'm sorry, I always jump into the story too soon. I always forget that some beings have no idea what I speak of. Miss Leila and Miss Ellen are two of about twenty thousand people lucky enough to live in Ellington. Ellington is a fairly small planet, discovered after what you call Pluto. Okay, I seem crazy, huh? Well that's alright. I'll make a believer out of you. Trust me.
What most people on Earth never realize is that there certainly are many dimensions. Tons, in fact. Don't go around thinking you're all there is, 'cause you're not. There is so much you are missing out on, so many parallel universes, so many opposite worlds, so much to explore and discover. Ellington is just the beginning. But, the beginning is the best place to start. So, I suppose I'll start by introducing our new friends…
Miss Ellen is quite the busybody. Her business is, well, everything. Never, EVER, and may I repeat never share ANYTHING private with Miss Ellen. I learned this the hard way; so be glad you don't have to. Miss Leila is a dear, really. How she gets along with one like Miss Ellen is a mystery to me. But, as long as they get along… who'm I to talk about their friendship? But, now I'm getting carried away a bit with the "Odd Couple" similarities.
They both live in Altrez, a state in Ellington, but Altraz is so big that they're almost the whole planet apart! Long distance friends, hard, but I guess they like it all right. I was never one for the sort; someone moves away, I move on. Ah! There I go again; stating myself rather than my story. I'm a bit too opinionated… and me SAYING this is just making me further off track! Inhale, exhale, I'll be fine.
ON TO THE STORY!! Anyway, I'll introduce their lives to you to make introducing Ellington easier. Miss Ellen lives out in Creat County. That's way out there on the edge. Most Counties don't have varying skies, but the two counties on the farthest edges of Ellington do, for some odd reason. So, obviously, right there on the complete other side of Ellington is where Miss Leila lives, in Imag County. Egads, completely across the world. They're brave friends, to face their long distance bills. Chuckle, chuckle. I guess I'm back to my opinion all the time… great. I'll shake that out of myself rrriiigght now. Ahem, now. Here's a conversation I "overheard" the other day between the two, over their bill creating phones. L is Leila, and E is Ellen.
L: Ellen, dearest, how lovely to talk to you!
E: Always a pleasure. How has your day gone, Leila?
L: Well I had to go grocery shopping--
E: Say no more… it isn't necessary. You're tired because you bought Goodnight brand Ice cream.
L: Yes. Very. But let's… talk… some… more…. Ellen…
E: No. Go to your pod and sleep. You haven't been getting enough!
L: Ellen, no. I want to talk, really I do.
E: I insist that you go to your pod even if you have to take a relaxant! NOW!
L: Fine, fine.
So I didn't pick the best time to spy on them. I tried, didn't I?
