Maurice Orr turned to painting professionally in 2002, initially becoming inspired by the Northern Ireland landscape. He then travelled to Majorca, painting scenes of the island that tourists never get to see. He broadened his horizons and applied for a bursary which took him to the prairies of Western Canada. He hasn't looked back.
Maurice returned home to Northern Ireland this year after spending ten weeks at the Banff Centre in the Canadian Rockies.
Maurice's intention in Banff was to paint winter skies and mountains. However, with the temperature 30 below zero, it was apparent that his ideas would have to change. All he could see from his window were trees. They became his inspiration..... |
