NY based singer/songwriter
Maureen McElheron is best known for writing music for Bill Plympton's
animated films. Many of their short films are regularly shown on MTV
and have received countless awards and praise. Maureen wrote the song
for the critically acclaimed animated short Your Face. Her
eerily slowed-down vocals helped garner this film an Oscar nomination.
In 1991 Maureen scored The
Tune, Plympton's first animated feature about a struggling songwriter's
search for the perfect song. Her music was nominated for a Spirit Award
for Best Independent Film Soundtrack.
Working with Maureen is Hank
Bones, who arranges her songs. He shares Maureen's aversion to synthesized
sounds. Hank's acoustic arrangements dig deep into all levels and eras
of pop music.
Recently Maureen produced,
composed, and sang the music for 12 Tiny Christmas Tales,
a 2001 holiday Christmas special on the Cartoon Network.
Maureen's greatest musical
influences came from her family. Her parents sang professionally and Maureen
says " Grandma played a lively stride piano and taught us from the great
American songbook from Steven Foster to Steven Sondheim." Growing up,
Maureen's family sang all around Michigan.
