True Inspiration

An inspiration, a person much worthier than I,

Being everything I wanted to be

Young, bursting with spirited energy

walking with a gait so confident and comfortable

Doing so many things I wanted to do

What a speaker, what a performer!

Oh, the desire to be noticed and approved of by one so great

But fear was so intense, I couldn’t breath

What to say, how to act, so filled with shame at my fear and lack,

I had nothing to offer.

With darkness and confusion overwhelming, life became unbearable

Then, a miracle, someone who understood, someone who has been there.

Mangled past is now teacher, not bondage.

Slowly the awakening, as realization gently opens my soul.

No longer needing appreciation or approval,

shame and insecurities melt away, bit by bit.

My courage abounded!  I could speak to this person so admired.

An yet, confusion filled me, when my expressions of joy were met with shortness.

I have done something wrong.  I have so much to learn.

Another miracle, a young girl’s spoken indiscretion about private matters

revealed a life in conflict,

his own troubled world binding his Spirit, choking ability to participate fully in life.

A shock of awareness!

Living life as best he can, he is human, too!

Such freedom comes from comprehension.  My fears are released.

My Spirit leaps for joy with newfound freedom,

exploding into the world with great force.

My Spirit yells, “Share, share!  Let ME be your inspiration!

Trust god’s other creations to use your sharing as they are able.”

Now, truly inspired, no longer trying to be someone for anyone, I simply am.

True inspiration is the realization that the universe gives her inhabitants exactly what they need when they need it, and that all of us, guided by our Spirits,

are the miracle creators.
