GFP is produced in Aequorea Victoria, which is a type of jellyfish. It was first discovered in and isolated from them. GFP is now useful in that it can be attached to an important cell proteins in order to attain images of the protein's movement. We have attained a complex of GFP attached to Protein Kinase C-alpha, and will transfect that into mouse melanoma cells that will be treated with retinoic acid (RA). Then the cells will be observed via confocal microscopy. David Butler has created an in-depth page on GFP. |
