MATT'S US WEEKLY POOL
Three weeks in, but lots of time left!
Look at the GAME link for celebrity's average points through two weeks.
To give my wife something to during this fantasy football season, I have borrowed/blatently stole an idea from ESPN's The Sports Guy, and have created an US Weekly pool.  To play, you need to manage your team of celebrities to garner the most points throughout the season.  Celebrities will earn points, or lose points, by appearing each week in US Weekly.  Read the rules below, then let me know if you want to play!

CURRENT TEAMS
LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!!
Everyone wants to get this game started again, so I finally stayed in on a Saturday night and got everything together.  (You're welcome.)  Because I am late in getting this out - lets get the game together quickly.  That means, you need to tell me you are playing and submit your first team by Monday, September 17th.  The magazine we receive on Thursday the 20th will be the first scores of the year.

Changes to the rules this year - The men are in one list - pick any two guys for your team each week, there is no D and E player this year.  You cannot pick the same guy twice for the week.

Click on the GAME link above to select your team - save the spreadsheet and send it back to me.  Or, just send me your five players.

Let me know if you have any questions at all -
[email protected]
RULES -
Open up the
GAME link and look at the two spreadsheets inside.  The first sheet ("Celeb Listing") will give you a listing of celebrities broken down into one of five categories.  The second sheet ("Pick Your Players") will allow you to pick the celebrity you want for that week's team.  If you want a celebrity that is not already pre-populated, just type in the celebrity's name into the "C" player box if a woman, and man box if a man.  Save the "Pick Your Players" sheet and send it to [email protected].  (Or, if you just want to email me your five players, that is fine too!)

Points will be awarded each week when the new US Weekly arrives.  Your celebrities will get points for the following:

10pts for the main cover
5pts for a small picture on the cover
1pt for a picture in the magazine
-5pts for appearing in Fashion Police "When Bad Clothes Happen to Good People"
3pts for Fashion Police "Look of the Week"
-2pts for appearing in the Fashion Police
2pts for "Who Wore it Best" Winner
-1pt for "Who Wore it Best" Loser
.5pts for having a "Loose Talk" quote

Notes -
1.  No points awarded for celebs appearing in advertisements
2.  If you pick the Olsen's as your "B" player, you get half the points awarded for each time either of the twins appears.  Example, if Mary Kate appears on the cover, you get 5 points, but if her sis Ashley is right there with her, you get 5 points for both, equaling 10.
3.  To get a point, the celebrity must be able to be named without the caption - thus, no points for pictures of engagement rings, shoes, etc.  (The face must be present.)
4.  A picture and a quote in "Loose Talk" will be worth 1.5 points.

I will calculate and send out the standings each weekend.  You will also be able to look at the standings on this website - so make it a favorite.  If you want to change your team, send me a new spreadsheet with your roster by Monday, 3pm Chicago time.  If you choose to not change any players from one week to the next, your team will remain as it was the previous week.

The season will last throughout the current NFL season.  Therefore, the first teams are due September 17th.  The last points will be earned with the magazine arriving on approximately Thursday December 28th.

In order to win, you must actively manage your team, just like your man manages his football team.  Who was caught making out with John Mayer?  What power couple is calling it quits?  When will Jessica Simpson stop putting on the lbs?  When will Ashlee get the rest of her body redone?  When will Lindsay Lohan finally do enough drugs so her head falls off?  If you can figure that out, you will accumulate a lot of points.

The cost of the game is $20 and will be split depending on how many girls play.  Last year there were 21 participants, the winner took home $300 with second place getting $100 and third won their money back.  Just think, if you win, you might have enough for a down payment on a new Louis!

Let me know if you want to play, I will set you up on the email list.  Send me your name, what email address you would like the updates sent to, and - the biggie, tell me, if you were a celebrity, who would want to be best friends with?  (Or, if you are a celebirty, still, whom would you want your best friend to be.)

Let all of your friends know - the more players, the bigger the purse, literally, if you win, you can buy a bigger purse!

Send any inquires to
[email protected]
Note - This game is not meant to infringe on any trademarks, patents or copyrights held by US Weekly or its parent company(ies.)  If US Weekly wants me to cease this game, I will do so very quickly out of fear of lawsuits.  (By the way, US Weekly, my only asset is my 1995 Ford Ranger, so if you want it, you can take it.)  I would however think that US Weekly should thank The Sports Guy and me for making this game.  I can only envision it helping your readership as it will get a few woman to switch from People or In Touch while this game is going on.  Just for you guys, I will let you keep the profit from this increase in sales and not ask to split it.-Matt
