I asked, I got - we delve into the unknown now as mega MJ fan Alison writes her first review.....
Matthew Jay (supporting Starsailor) Venue - Nottingham Rock City Date - October 28th 2001 Rating - 10/10
Well, I'd waited a long time to catch Matthew live, and finally here it was! I must add, this was my boyfriend, Ian's, first "proper" rock concert and I knew he was a little dubious bless him, not being a huge MJ fan. I was determined we got to the front row, and got to the venue stupidly early (around 3.00pm) only to fall out of a taxi in front of James Walsh (Starsailor). Which was embarrasing to say the least. So front row it was (after an afternoon in the pub next door)! I'm not sure if this was the case but Matthew seemed very nervous. I'll swear to this day his eyes were shut all the way through. Mind you Nottingham is Matthew's adopted home town, so I'm sure there were more friends and family there than anywhere else. After a seemingly shaky start (nerves?) it was easy to see Matthew enjoying his own music, and the rest of the band certainly seemed happy to be there. Sam did the whole "rock god on a guitar" bit, Garf had everyone clapping their hands in the air and I'm sure I have a photo somewhere of Sam and Matthew looking for all the world like members of Status Quo, doing a bit of tandem guitar shaking. Stand out moments (and I must admit I can't remember that much, I was so over-excited it was all a blur!) had to be 'Remember This Feeling' and singing along LOUDLY to 'Call My Name Out', which was introduced with "This is my latest single, so ermmm......give me a break?!" I had a fantastic time singing along and as for Ian....? He's converted. He does'nt take the piss out of my taste in music any more. Thanks People : ) Alison
