Ice Storm of 29 & 30 December 2006
On the Thursday the 28th of December, 2006, it started raining. The temperature dropped below freezing then on Friday, and the ice began to buildup. By Saturday morning, we were without electricity. (We were without until Wednesday night, Jan 3rd) On Monday (Jan 1st), the Sun finally came out, so I ventured out to get some pictures. The ice started to melt fast in the sun, but it still was quite thick. Here's just a few photos, and feel free to download any you desire.
The pastures were gorgeous in the Sun! That is a Yucca under that ice. Notice that quite a bit of ice has already fallen
off the barbed wire fence. It seemed to me that the ice fell off the powerlines and fences first.
Everything was encased in ice. Here's a close up of a strand of barbed wire.
The ice has a magnifying effect and makes the wire look significantly bigger.
Just imagine how much weight that would be with an entire tree covered like this!
I forgot to measure how big this ice was on my pickup antannea, but hopefully the picture gives you an idea....
This Elm tree simply couldn't bare the weight any longer, and gave up.
This good sized branch fell off a big Cotton Wood tree and landed on the old Crown Vic. Amazingly, the car just suffered a couple dings.
