Virginia Rose
Rosa virginiana
This beautiful native rosebush grows to six feet tall and blooms from June through August.  Numerous species of Roses occur in a variety of sites throughout the Midwest, from dry uplands to wetlands and sand dunes.  This one occurs mostly in woodland clearings, thickets, and shores.  Like most roses, their fruit, the rose hips, are rich in vitamin C and can be eaten, made into jams, or steeped to make Rose hip tea.
