Crayfish Scoop
Here are instructions for how to make a crayfish scoop.

You will need:
- one square foot of wire mesh. You can get this for free anywhere people put trash.
- something to cut the wire
- pliers

Now cut a pattern out of your wire that looks like this:

This is not a crayfish scoop. It's a dustpan.

But it's the same shape as a crayfish scoop.

Fold along the dotted lines and secure the edges by wrapping the wire through the openings. Your scoop should be about 2-3 inches tall at the opening, and about 4-5 inches long. You ask: "How is this modified dustpan going to help me catch crayfish?"

Here's how:
When you spot a crayfish, simply place the scoop behind him. Use your other hand to scare the crayfish into the opening. Now lift the scoop out of the water, making sure to keep the opening covered because the crayfish will otherwise flip out of the scoop.
