Internet and Database Programmer (Mar 01 - Feb 02) Isis Communications, Harris St, Pyrmont Description: Uploaded business data (collected by a call-centre) into an MS Sql Server Relational Database using (complex) Transact-SQL stored procedures, utilising table-cursors, looping and branching logic, multi-table joins, triggers and scheduling services. This was integrated with a Perl pattern matching and text cleansing routine through the 'osql' command line utility. Customised and extended a large online directory style ASP application, using VB COM components, ADO and SQL Server 7. The ASP pages used COM components which in turn called stored-procedures on a large database. Contributed to the development of a prototype replacement application using Java Servlets, JSP, JDBC and SQL. Maintained a Web Based Email System running on Linux. This system used a web-based email client (Horde-Imp) with Apache interfacing to the Cyrus Imap Mail Server.
Gained a good knowledge of Linux/Unix tools, pipelines, filters
as well as the main Internet protocols and RFCs.
Wrote a Transact Sql script which took
free-form text data (advertisements) from
a Trading Post Paper and parsed that data
into SQL Server database fields. This involved
a tolerance of spelling mistakes, abbreviations
and a variety of colloquial expressions.
