* Introduction

The main site for the Community Work Centre is now at
http://wagga-cwc.org.au but the content is still being migrated
(feb 2004).

The pages you are looking at are intended to be used as a kind of 'scratchpad' or 'notepad' for ideas and information as the PC Recycle Website
[http://macwcwagga.homedns.org/pcrecycle/index.html] is developed.
YOU CAN EDIT THESE PAGES
[http://www.wagga-cwc.org.au/refurb/webpad/webpad.php?file=%2Fhome%2Fwaggacwc%2Fpublic_html%2Frefurb%2Fold-wiki.txt] .

M.J. Bishop [http://www.geocities.com/matth3wbishop/] is working on the
web-site development with [[Damien]] Gooley.

If you want to add anything or change anything on these pages, just click
on the 'edit this page' link at the bottom of any page.
WARNING:
I have noticed that when a new page is created it doesn't display properly until the second time that it is edited.

For information about how to make these pages look prettier (with
headings and lists etc), see

* News

  Feb 2004:
The web-site is almost getting to a presentable stage.

* Ideas for the PC Recycle web-site

  a-
The website should have some kind of Content management system
to simplify the maintenance of the site and to allow for possible
'community' features of the web-site, such as the ability for
participants in the project to contribute information.
  -
The website should provide some kind of 'catalogue' of the various
old computers which have been donated to the project.
  -
  Ideas From [[Damien]] 12/dec/03

u-

suggest participants utilize this wiki as a log of their activities as well
as their ideas on the site. Can we set up a page for each participant to
document their daily activities and ideas with respect to the project.
-
the design of the catalogue needs to be discussed and work begun asap. Mysql is installed on this server (which is called 'intranet'),
perhaps set up a web interface to the Catalogue database for participants involved in the catalogue process to add entries to. We have a digital camera so a photo can be taken of each item and added also. mjb: (12 dec 2003) This involves the following tasks:

1- designing and setting up a Mysql database, [feb 2004: this still hasnt
been done, I have been side-tracked making a document management system
for the new server [http://wagga-cwc.org.au]
- set up a generic web-interface to the database allowing adding
deleting and editing of records (I suggest a php component such as ?)
- some custom built pages for displaying the catalog.

u- allow potential recipients of computers to register their interest as
they visit the site.
- A page to describe types of computer hardware that we really need
donated by the comunity.
- A participant 'survey' page which asks the participants about their
skills and interests and what they hope to extract from the course.
This might be a slightly too 'impersonal' approach to finding out things
about the participants. I think that face to face interviewing would be
more effective.
- In some cases a lack of literacy and typing skills may be a barrier to
these activities. A voice recognition system to allow participants to
make input without having to have a high level of literacy would be an
interesting idea. I do not know what open source voice recognition systems
are available. This is a research topic. Open source voice recognition
systems for linux appear very immature.
- ... suggestions anybody

* Important Stuff

http://macwcwagga.homedns.org/pcrecycle/index.html
The Web-site home page for the PC Recycle Project. This site is in the
very early stages of development.

http://macwcwagga.homedns.org/
The home page for the Mission Australia Community Work projects.
(the PC Recycle Project is one of these Community Work projects).
This is a set of pages with a little information about each of
the Community Work Projects which are run by Mission Australia.

[[current web presence]]
This page contains information about the current web presence of
Mission Australia, the community work projects and the Computer Refurbishment
(Pc Recycle) project in particular

  http://wagga-cwc.org.au/refurb/docs/mjb-journal.html
This page gives a summary of the things that M.J. Bishop doing as a
volunteer on the Pc Recycle project.

  http://macwcwagga.homedns.org:8080/CommunityWork
This site contains the beginnings of a site built with the
Zope Application Server. On the new webserver [http://wagga-cwc.org.au]
there is no 'zope' capabilities, or at least you would probably
have to pay large amounts of money for it. So zope is not going
to be a big part of our plans.

  http://wftd.macwcwagga.homedns.org/index.php
A test installation of the 'ezpublish' system, which is another
candidate as a platform for the web-site

;[[Content Management Systems]]:
This document (will) contain(s) research about CMS systems which
are currently (11 December 2003) for deployment on the Community Work
Project Web-server

[[nice pages]]
Web pages whos design I like (mjb)

[[sarahs page]] -- This Page is good. Hopefully Sarah will be helping
us in our efforts to create a web-site for the pc-recycle and web-design
project. (Dont be put off by 'zope' sarah) -this is meant as a guilt-trip

* How to Create a (New) Page

Unfortunately you can't at the moment (feb 2004), unless you have a password.
If you have a password then the process is still a little strange. You
have to copy an existing file (by clicking on the link which says
something like 'Copy or Rename the Current File'
  link:///refurb/manage/move-file-form.php?file=/home/waggacwc/public_html/refurb/old-wiki.txt and then deleting
all the contents from the newly created file. This process really
  should be fixed up.

* Participant Web Sites

  http://paulswrestlingsite.bravehost.com
This is a site devoted to wrestling. A few animated gifs and some
    information.

* Notes

The Wagga Wagga public library [http://www.wagga.nsw.gov.au/library/]
has the usual overly restrictive proxy server which only allows
connections on port 80. The current site has been designed with this
  in mind. The

Zope development has been put on the backburner since the new webserver
  does not support it.
Zope non port 80 problems could be fixed using info from
  http://zope.org/Members/regebro/Zope_and_Apache or by running Zope
  [http://www.zope.org] behind Apache [http://www.apache.org]
