the chicago bulls franchise started out in 1965. success did not enter the franchise till the late 1970's when they made it to the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors. the lost the series.
in past years the bulls have drafted super stars such as Aftis Gilmore,Orlando Woolridge,George Gervin,Reggie Theus,Jerry Sloan,Norm Vanleir,and Tom Borewinkle.
in 1984 NBA Draft the bulls had the 3rd overall pick,the houston rockets had the 1st ,and the Portland Trailblazers had the 2nd. with the 1st pick houston selected hakeem olajuwan out of houston. as a suprise the blazers picked Sam Bowie. the bulls looking to draft a big man, they ended up drafting a 6"6 lanky guard out of North Carolina. his name was Michael Jordan. what they didn't know was that this lanky kid from Wilmington would not only revolutionize their team but the world of basketball and sports as well.
Michael had a stellar season. he won Rookie of the Year honors,averaged 16 ppg,and was selected to the NBA all-star game. in all-star weekend he also got the opportunity to face off with Dominique Wilkens in the finals of the slam-dunk contest. although Wilkens won,the world witnessed MIchael at a different point of view.......IN THE AIR.
in 1987 the bulls drafed Horace Grant and Scottie Pippen. actually they origionaly drafeted Olden Polyinice and traded him to the Sonics for Pippen. Grant and Pippen were a big help and would take the scoring load off of MJ.
in 1988 they traded intimidating power forward Charles Oakley to the Knicks for center Bill Cartwright.
in the years 19881991 the bulls would face the Detroin Pistons,also known as the Bad Boys,in the eastern confrence semi-finals or confrence finals.and every time the Bulls would lose. until 1991.
the year before the bulls lost in 7 games to the Pistons. in 1991 they had all the pieces to the puzzle. entering the play-offs they had the best record in the league. in the first round the swept the Knicks. in the 2nd round the beat Charles Barkley
and his Sixers in 5 games. they would now face the Detroit Pistons in the confrence finals 3 years in a row. the Bulls swept the Pistons. now it was on to the NBA Finals against the L.A. Lakers.
game one was in Chicago. with 9.5 sec the Bulls were down by 1. MJ took a shot on the left block of the free-throw line. the ball rattled in and out and they lost the game. the Bulls went on to win the rest of the games. the won their first championship in their 25 year existence.
the bulls would go on to win 5 more championships and create maybe the greatest sports dynasty of all time.
