MATTIE
This is mattie nickname for Mattress....How she came by her name and into our lives is quite a story.

One day in May 1983 she walked in to our place of business (we own a mattress manufacturing plant) through the loading dock door and walked past everyone in the break area through the building and into the office at which time she worked her way under my wife's desk and lay down.

I was moving through the factory asking everyone if they had seen a dog in the building and my wife motioned to me to come into the office.  There she lay under the desk eating a cookie or something like that my wife had given her.  She acted like she owned the place and had been there for years.  Every day she showed up at the door at 8:00a.m. and would leave at 12:00p.m. and return at 12:30 on the dot and would stay until time to closing.

One day my wife decided to apply some flea repllent to her as she was covered with flea's.  When we applied the spray she took off running as fast as she could.  We thought she had left us for good as it was a year to the day that she came walking back in like she had never left.  We became attached to her very quickly and wanted to take her home but we just knew that she belonged to someone in the neighborhood so we were content with just seeing her at the office until one evening I decided to take her home.  We already had two dogs at home but I was determined to talk my wife into it.

My wife told me that she was sure that Mattie had a home so I suggested that we let her out at closing and pull the overhead door down and wait 5 min. then open the door and if she was there we would take her home and if not we would assume she had a home and let it go at that.  When we opened the door she was gone and my wife breathing with relief said see I told you.  I was a little down but when we closed up and arrived at our Van in the parkinglot on the other side of the building there was Mattie sitting next to the Van waiting for us.  She hopped in and jumped in the front passanger seat like she had ridden there before  and off we went. She has been with us ever since.

Today we had to have her put to sleep as she was in much pain from a combination of age and illness and I Loved her too much to let her suffer.

Please see the side note.

Side Note:
Mattie you have been a true friend and over the almost 18 years you have been with us we have come to love you like a child.

You will be missed more than words can express and there will always be a void in our lives where you once were.

I know that there is a Heaven for animals especially one as loving and kind as you.

There will never be a day in our life that we won't think of you!

We will see you again someday.

We will always love you!
