Fiberglass the Sides Since I was using fir plywood, I needed to cover the sides with a thin application of fiberglass to prevent future checking. Not required when using the other plywoods, it really wasn't hard to do. The good side is that I will have a boat that is more durable. Bad side is that the fiberglass is not cheap, takes a little longer to apply, and will add weight to the boat. I fiberglassed the inside panels before assembly. Don't know for sure, but I'm guessing that putting down fiberglass cloth on the inside, working around all the forms and ribs, would be hard to do after the boat is assembled.
If you're using System Three® epoxies, I recommend reading the Epoxy book before you begin working. It's very well written, and informative. Available free as a pdf download from their website. >> Next Step: I assembled the sides and frames... >> ------ |
