Who Am I?

Hi I'm Matthew Courtis I currently live in San Antonio, Texas but am originally from California. I Started becoming interested in Graphic Design back in 2004 while going to college at Humboldt State University (HSU) located in northern Cali where I pursued my Bachelors degree in Studio Art. One computer illustration class peaked my interest in which I further researched pursuring a career in Graphic Design. Unfortunately, HSU didn't have a program in Graphic Design.

A year later, after having much difficulties with finding a job, I decided to enlist into the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. It was actually during my second duty station on board the USS Enterprise where I met the love of my life, my husband. My enlistment lasted for 8 years, in which I then decided to separate in January of 2018

About a year before my separation, my husband and I had been researching places to settle and just live out our lives. We came upon a decision to reside in San Antonio where I currently hold a government position.

Years later after my initial interest in Graphic Design, I've decided to continue pursuing my career that is Graphic Design.

Work Experience

Office Automation Assistant 2019-Present, San Antonio, TX

At the Randolph Air Force BaseI worked administration for the Mental Health clinic. Here I would schedule and cancel patient appointments, create/open provider schedule templates, manage patient records for staging purposes. Other duties consists of clerical work to include answering/transferring phone calls, scan/make copies, and create/prepare documents.

Medical Support Assistant 2018-2019, San Antonio, TX

For this position I worked at the Brooke Army Medical Center in the Neurosurgery department. I would schedule/cancel patient appointments for pre-ops, preadmissions, and follow-up appointments. In addition, I would use a separate program for scheduling patients for their surgical procedures. In preparation of these procedures, I would contact industry representatives to ensure medical equipment and assistance is provided. This position also included some clerical work such as receiving/screening phone calls, assisting patients at the front desk, and preparing correspondence.

Deployment Manager/Travel Administrator 2015-2018, Bethesda, MD

This position was located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Here I would notify personnel of the mandatory requirements in order to sustain 100% deployability rate in preparation of time-sensitive government travel. I also distributed the required documentation to personnel assigned for government travel that was to be completed in a timely manner. This paperwork was then prepared, reviewed, and filed in order for the personnel to bring on their travels. Furthermore, I would also make the necessary travel arrangements for the personnel such as booking hotels, car rentals, and flights while adhering to the government travel regulations and policies. Also, was eventually elected to be a reviewing official for submitting travel arrangements to ensure personnel receive a smooth experience.
