| Our City Council has done a great job in developing our current infrastructure of roads, power, water, sewer and of course, public safety. With these crucial elements in place, the next step is to then improve the economic growth of our city in order to support its growth. | ||||||||||||
| The first step towards promoting an economically well-supported community is in encouraging the introduction of new businesses into West Richland. Yoke's Market and its accompanying retail pads, the GESA branch and the Kadlec facility going in on Bombing Range and Paradise are exactly the types of businesses best suited to West Richland's revenue needs. My opponent in this election has made plain his opposition to this type of growth and I respect his opinion. However, Yoke's is a family-founded, Northwest franchise owned by its employees and will provide approximately $60,000 to $70,000 a year in revenue to West Richland. In my mind, this is an ideal combination of local values and economic growth because we have to be realistic; our community is growing very quickly and our financial structure needs to grow with it. | ||||||||||||
| Another positive step towards West Richland's economic stability is in improving and bolstering our existing local businesses. As one of West Richland's main thoroughfares, Van Giesen has a lot of potential as the 'gateway' to our city. So, we should promote the improvement and support of these businesses so that they can continue to provide their same high level of local service while also becoming more modernized. This modernization will help these businesses compete with newer ones and will keep them thriving as West Richland grows. To accomplish this, we could set aside some of the funds from the sale of the golf course for low-interest or no-interest loans for these establishments. It is vital to keep our local businesses flourishing since they provide much of the charm and character of our community and they are as much our neighbors as the people next door. | ||||||||||||
