Entry for September 29, 2006

I just looked ath the blog I typed two days ago.  It's a book!  Sorry you had to read through the rant.

Anyway, the week is over and we both really needed the weekend to be here.  Verizon installed the new Fios system in our house....all fiber optic and supposedly the best TV, Internet and Phone experience.  Well, so far...it sucks.  I see the potential for it to be amazing...but the features they promised when I ordered were definitely not delivered.  I give a big fat F grade to Verizon right now.  Well, maybe it's not THAT bad.  The worst part is that they told us we would be able to play, pause, record and skip around live TV in every room with one single command box upstairs. Well, that was wrong.  You can access recorded shows, but can't manage the show you're watching unless you're literally in the room where the DVR HD box resides.  I was misled!  Hopefully they will send out new equipment and get me all fixed up…free of charge of course.

I saw my neurologist again the morning.  Every two weeks for now.  I like Friday morning appointments because the good doctor is in a very good mood.  He says its POET day on Fridays.  (Piss On Every Thing)  He has quite the sense of humor.

More good news....the headaches are subsiding.  Before I needed Vicodin to kill the ach, now regular Tylenol seem to be working just fine.  I'm almost off the rest of the meds including the anti-seizure and steroid.  One made me eat like crazy...the other made me sleep.  Figure that one out.  Basically, I went to bed with a snickers bar in my mouth.  I will remember it always:)

My doctor said he reached out to the surgeon who diagnosed me with a brain tumor.  Not to question or judge, but to make sure they were collaborating in the best interest of their patient...me.  Apparently, my first doctor was a little short and once again, stood by his diagnoses.  I have to say, this is one stubborn and egotistical guy.  Not just one, but 6 other doctors conclude differently.  My current doc says that some people, once they put their foot down...there is no changing back.  What's curious is that he told my new doctor that he didn't say for certain it was a glioma tumor...but a possibility.  What a flat out lie.  I’ve been told he does have a good reputation, but maybe I was the one time mistake.  As you can see, this is still bothering me.  I have to let it go.  Or sue...or let it go...or sue.  Let it go.

By Sunday, I will be off every medication.  What a freaking relief.  Word to the wise...steroids suck.  They make you irritable, anxious, angry, shaky, hungry, wired, sleepless and moody.  Murad will be happy those days are gone....for now:)  Also going off the anti seizure slowly.  Doctor said the event is over and the likelihood of seizure is low.  Besides, they don't have any conclusive proof that the anti-seizure meds will actually keep you from having one.  Those made me tired and loopy by the way.

Regarding the vision, it’s better and worse at times.  Depending on how tired I am.  Seems the longer I go, the more it affects me.  I LOVE the mornings as I'm super clear and see better than any other part of the day.  Again, maybe a sign that time will improve things.  The doctor seems to think I’m simply getting used to the condition and my brain is compensating.  It’s likely I will not regain that portion of site….at least in a measurable way.  Perception can be more powerful that reality…so I will believe it is improving daily.

I'v been told I have no driving restrictions, but I must think about my danger to other drivers.  I can certainly learn to adjust and compensate...being more cautions to counter the slight loss I have with more conservative driving.  But I’m not ready just yet.  Maybe next week,  I miss my truck!  That’s all I need is to run into some old lady on my left with her eye patch covering her right eye.  What a story that would be.

hmmmm...what else.  Jack got the WORST haircut at PetSmart last week.  He came out looking like a cotton ball and they teased his hair while blow drying.  I should have known by the look of my stylist.  And they say owners look like their dogs.  This girl was out there.  From now on, Jack gets hand cut and NO blow dryer.  He's been in the pool 5 times and the hair is still proofed up.  I've attached a pic of him in the salon!

Ok..last note.  Muad's birthday is October 4th and we can't let him know about the surprise party.  wink wink.

Miss and love you all!

I'm off to do some work, then eat again, then watch some late night TV from my "can't pause" Verizon box.

Verizon is the devil!  Or is that George Bush??  Can’t remember who said that.

Speak soon!  Matt

Happy birthday Murad! Matthew, sounds like things are looking up a bit. Even with a permanent headache you can still profess your love for George Bush! Promise to go easy at work. Talk to you soon. Love, Cheryl Ann
