                          MOUNT CLOUDTIP PROPHECY
                     **********************************

Well, I missed the RPGDX summer compo nostos, but here's my attempt
at a nostalgic game. I was completed in 6 days, but I was rowing
twice a day for each of those, so I only got about 2 hours done
each day so I could have completed it in the deadline.

Its an old style Qbasic RPG like Panterra55's Hellpit, with a
beginning and an end, no in-between cutscenes, moving NPC's or sub
quests, just about three hours of leveling up to beat the boss and
win.

Everything, except for the sav file, is included in the .BAS, the
title pic, the end animation, the map and the tiles just like the
good old days. All the graphics use QB's primitives, and not even
sprites saved as DATA lines and drawn with PSET, but actual Line,
Circle and Paint, statement unheard of in todays world.

As far as story goes its pretty much what you see is what you get,
no twists betrayals or alternate endings: You're a princess, you
must save your people from the evil Opressor.

Game design wise I was partly inspired by Legend of the Trolls, an
entery into DD's miniRPG compo that was made in two hours (Infact
it was this game that inspired me to make an oldschool QBRPG) where
the map was up in the top corner, and the writting surrounding it
held all the stats, battles and instructions.

While I made the Non-game parts I was thinking about what an RPG
would be like in an Arcade machine, and how would things like the
title and the end-sequence be shown. I doubt what I think would
actually be put in an Arcade RPG, but thats what I was thinking of
when I wrote it.

I'm considering writting a sequal, in GWBasic with Isometric
projection, but I doubt it, so enjoy this nostalgia trip and try to
remember that its not how many layers or moving NPC's your RPG can
handle that make it decent, its the gameplay and the fact you have
FINISHED it that count.

OH FUCK! I forgot. Gameplay instructions:

Arrow keys move you around, F1 save, F2 loads ESC quits, be careful,
in the true QB style there will be no "are you sure?" prompts.

You can only use potions in a Battle, and you pick them up after
battles.

You gain a level every 10 Xp, and the enemies grow stronger every
10 Levels, so you are strongest at Levels 8 and 9, 18 and 19, 28
and 29, etc.

Weapons and Armour can only be found in a Tresure Chest, which is
hidden somewhere on the map, when you are in the same quater as the
tresure chest you will be notified. Weapons mean you get allot
stronger without having to level up, and Armours mean you get allot
tougher without having to level up.

The weapons and Armour tables are as follows:

FIST SHIRT WEAKEST
KNIFE SLAT v
STAFF CHAIN v
SWORD PLATE v
SCEPTRE MAGIC STRONGEST

Warning: Once you pic up a weapon or armour from the tresure box
it replaces the weapon or armour you allready had, even if the old
armour or weapon was stronger, so before you go searching for the
tresure box SAVE YOUR GAME.

You may also find a Potion or a Wandering Monster in the Tresure
Box.

After you have found the Tresure Box it will be moved to another
location and you will have to find it all over again!

Okay, that looks like it, I can't think of anything else to say.
Email me or post on my board if you play this game PLEASE. I get
no feedback from my work.

Cya!
