Welcome to Miramonte track & field. This season promises to be one
of the
best ever in Miramonte history. It looks like we will have in excess of
160
athletes on the team once all the winter sports' seasons come to a close.
The coaching staff is excited and optimistic about working with such a large
and enthusiastic group. We also look forward to increased parent support
at
meets (lots of cheering) and volunteering at meets. Thanks in advance for
all the help and encouragement for the athletes. See you all at the parent
meeting.

Parent Meeting – Thursday, February 21st
We’d like to invite all parents to attend the parents’ orientation meeting on Thursday, February 21st at 7:00 p.m. in the MHS Library. It’s a great way to learn about what Miramonte track is all about, meet the coaches, get a schedule of track meets and to sign up for all the volunteer efforts that make this team such a great experience for our kids.
Spirit Fees
In support of our team, we are asking parents for help in the form of a Spirit Fee. This team fee is used for our team t-shirts, our team basket for the Crab Feed donation, mailings, water/ice, awards banquet, coaches gifts, 7 pasta feeds, misc. For returning team members who already have their uniform shorts, please make your check out to Miramonte High School Track for $75. If you are a new track team member, there is an additional charge of $15 for shorts so make your check out for $90 and be sure to indicate the size of shorts you need. League states all athletes must have uniform shorts to run. Our athletes purchase their own shorts, which are theirs to keep, and the team provides the singlets for all runners. These uniform tops will be turned in as always at the end of the season. Bring your check to the parents meeting on February 21st , mail it to Barbara Rageh, 156 El Toyonal, Orinda, CA 94563 or give it to Coach Henderson.
Car Wash
Keep Sunday, FEBRUARY 24TH open on your calendars for our first Car Wash. Orinda Motors has graciously agreed to let us use their location again this year. We’ll start at 10:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. Bring buckets, towels. Sign up for shifts in Coach Henderson’s room. We need parents to help supervise, collect money, wash cars, etc. Please call Kathy Butlin at 254-7564 to volunteer and/or sign up at the Parents Meeting on February 21st. We can use your help! Don’t forget to bring your cars for a wash too!!! It’s a great fundraiser for the team and lots of fun. Next car wash – Sunday, March 24th.Phillips McCain Invitational III
Miramonte will host our third annual invitational meet on Saturday, April 13. Coach Henderson has been working hard to bring 20 -25 schools to participate. The last two meets were quite a success and we hope to surpass last year in attendance and achievement. We have jobs on the field and at the snack shack that need to be filled. Shift times are 8 am to 11 am, 10:30 am to 1:30 pm and 1:00 pm to end. Please help make this an outstanding event. Call Barbara Rageh at 253-8379 to volunteer. It’s a long day and we need everyone to participate.
Snack Shack (Stockholm Store)
Please consider signing up to run the Snack Shack this season for the three home meets including the Invitational. Or volunteer to take a shift on one (or more!) of these dates:
March 27
April 13 – Phillips McCain Invitational
April 17
Again, sign up at the Parents Meeting or call Barbara Rageh. The snack shack is a great spot from which to watch the meets.
Power Feeds FYI
These are terrific events scheduled on Tuesdays before each league meet. Beginning after practice about 5:30 and ending at 7:15, they are a perfect opportunity for the athletes to socialize and to rev up for the next day’s meet.These pasta extravaganzas are paid for out of your Spirit Fees. Below is a list of those scheduled for this season. You will have an opportunity to sign up for these at the parent meeting on February 21st. We need families to host and parents to co-host. If you can’t make the parent meeting, please call Kathy Butlin at 254-7564 if you would like to be of assistance.

Awards Banquet!
Mark your calendars for the Annual Awards Banquet to be held on Sunday, May 19, 2002 at 6:00 p.m. More news later.
